Welcome to the Fantasy Fan
Fantasy is a genre that uses magic and other supernatural forms as a primary element of plot, theme, and/or setting. The genre is usually associated with the overall look, feel and themes of the European Middle Ages (including architecture, dress and technology), while the actual setting is often a fictional plane or planet where magic and magical beings are commonplace.

Fantasy in all shapes and sizes
Fantasy genre influenced pretty much every form of art and entertainment known to man. The list of fantasy book authors is too long to mention on this website. Fantasy art is flooding with pictures of elves, dragons, fairies, unicorns and other mythical creatures. Fantasy books are closely followed by their adaptations on the big screen. There is already a good few good fantasy movies available and more are coming as we speak. Finally there are video games, which are insanely popular among not only the youngest, but adults as well.
On this website I'll try to browse through the most popular instances of fantasy in each form: art, book, movie and game.

Fantasy Art
Fantasy genre has many talented artists. My favorites are listed below. Luis Royo is definitely on top of my list, although his work may sometimes be rated for adults only. Larry Elmore is famous for his illustrations for Dragonlance books. Todd Lockwood is another artist I hold in high regard. Boris Vallejo is one of the first fantasy artists I have encountered. The last, but not least is Alan Lee, who's amazing artwork helped to make a great Lord Of The Rings movies.

Fantasy Authors
It's very difficult to pick favourite authors. Each world, each book is different, holds different magic, is dear to the hart in a different way. Books of the 3 authors listed below are equally valuable to me.

- John R.R. Tolkien
- John R.R. Tolkien, author of the single most famous fantasy book in the world: The Lord Of The Rings. If you haven't heard about him, you're not a fantasy fan. Do I need to say more?
- Terry Pratchett
- Terry Pratchett, creator of the Discworld series about a world set on the backs of four elephants standing on the back of a gigantic turtle. If you need a good laugh, Discworld is the way to go.
- George R.R. Martin
- George R.R. Martin is the author of (unfinished yet) Song of Ice and Fire series. Excellent dark fantasy with a complex plot full of political intrigues and lots of backstabbing. Unfortunately content suited for adults only.

Fantasy Movies
There are many titles in the fantasy movie category. The ones listed below are most popular and range from fairytale stories (Narnia) to much darker and unsettling (Golden Compass).

- Lord Of The Rings
- Based on J.R.R. Tolkien's masterpiece, The Lord of the Rings is an epic adventure of good against evil, the power of friendship and individual courage. The saga centers around a Hobbit named Frodo Baggins who inherits a Ring that would give a dark and powerful lord the power to enslave the world.
- Harry Potter
- Based on the wildly popular books by J.K. Rowling the movie series brings to life Harry Potter's world of Hogwarts, the school for young witches and wizards. Harry is raised by the aunt and uncle who begrudgingly inherited him when his parents were killed by the evil Voldemort. After being summoned to an infamous school for wizards Harry finds himself drawn deep inside a mystical world he never knew existed and closer to his own noble destiny.
- The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe
- Based on C.S. Lewis's classic novel The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe tells the story of the four Pevensie children and their adventures in the mystical world of Narnia. The arrival of the children gives the creatures of Narnia hope for liberation, and all are dragged into the inevitable conflict between evil (the Witch) and good (Aslan the Lion).
- Stardust
- The film, which captures the magic and vision of author Neil Gaiman's fantasy graphic fable, is a transportive journey into a world of true enchantment, which fans of the Harry Potter books will enjoy as well as will adults looking for the perfect date movie. Young Tristan vows to retrieve a fallen star for the most beautiful girl in the village, the shallow Victoria, and in his quest, finds his true love.
- Golden Compass
- Golden Compass is a movie based on the first book in Phil Pullman's His Dark Materials saga. Suitable for an older audience than Narnia, it deals with complex concepts, violence and implied death, children and animals in peril, and an unrelentingly ominous and unsettling mood.

Fantasy Games
Each fantasy movie and great many books are followed by games. Some of the games are decent, most of them unfortunately are just basing the success on the title they are based upon. Below you can find a list of games that definitely did it on their own.

- The Witcher
- The Witcher is a pinnacle of storytelling in role-playing games. It shatters the line between good and evil, building a world where moral ambiguity reigns. You'll become your own idea of what a great hero should be, as you control Geralt of Rivia - a a white-haired "witcher," monster-slayer-for-hire and master swordsman. While trying to regain his lost memory, Geralt unwillingly becomes involved in a world-shaking power struggle. In the process, you'll deal head-on with matters that most fantasy worlds ignore: Racism, political intrigue and genocide, to name a few.
- World Of Warcraft
- World of Warcraft didn't invent the online role-playing genre, but it certainly benefits from the missteps of other titles that have come before. A mind-boggling array of improvements in graphics, gameplay, networking, and interface - really every category - makes this game the crown prince of the genre, a great starting place for newbies, and a challenge to any other MMORPG currently in the works.
- Guild Wars
- Guild Wars is an online role-playing game that rewards player skill and innovative gameplay over hours spent online. Being one of the strongest World of Warcraft competitors Guild Wars offers a different flavor of MMORPG. And it's free from monthly fee!
- Neverwinter Nights
- Neverwinter Nights is a Dungeons & Dragons computer game, as well as the tool you'll need to create your own Dungeons & Dragons adventures. It accomplishes what computer role-playing games set out to do when Wizardry debuted in the late '70s: re-create the social, hands-on experience of tabletop gaming.
- WarCraft III
- Fantasy games don't are not limited to RPG games. There second most popular line of games are strategies. Here the lead takes another Blizzard product: Warcraft series. If you want to command armies of Orcs or Alliance, build bases and conquer new lands - Warcraft III is the game for you.
