I've always enjoyed having house plants until recent years when all my energy has gone into my outdoor plants - both flowers and veggies.

I managed to kill a gorgeous African violet in the past weeks. So I definitely need to buy some of these survivors for my house. Thank you for great information on easy to grow house plants.

I can't choose a favourite - I like all flowers! Decided to try pothos, it looked so nice in that vase with the rocks. Great if it can keep that way.

My favorite house plant is a white african violet. It was my mum's and it reminds me of her.
  • taskeinc Mar 25, 2012 @ 10:32 am | delete
Very interesting story about the "tear of happiness." My plants do it quite often. The tear is actually part of the process of Guttation. This is the exudation (liquid oozing out from plant pores) of water from leaves as a result of pressure from the roots. It is usually a sign that a plant is very healthy.

I don't have a green thumb, so maybe the snake plant would be best for me. :)

I have to be honest and admit I like flowers in nature but don't want to share my home with them. If I had a terrace or something, that would be different story.

  • ajgodinho Nov 7, 2011 @ 4:24 pm | delete
Growing up, both, my grandma and mom loved gardening, and especially like house plants. My mom still has a lot of house plants, many of which you've so beautifully presented here!

I just love when a room is full with Epipremnum aureums. They make it so nice and green and make you feel like you live in your own small jungle...

Very nice everyone can grow plants, they just need the right kind for where they want to grow a plant and learn basic care.
  • LeCordonDude Oct 31, 2011 @ 9:29 pm | delete
Awesome lens! You should do one on how to properly care for and possibly revive Orchids! People have such a hard time with them and they're so beautiful! They usually don't realize that they don't need water, just humidity, and that the roots grow exposed! Good Lens!
  • Oct 26, 2011 @ 5:06 pm | delete
Beautiful! I will definitely share this amazing lens with my friends. Two thumbs up! Squid-liked it.

  • nancycarol Oct 23, 2011 @ 4:04 pm | delete
I think because I grew up with my Mom's houseplants, it's hard for me to pick just one. But when I think about our house, it's the Coleus that comes to mind because of its beautiful colors. Mom always had beautiful bushy Coleus and she did pinch them back as you mentioned. This is a great houseplant lens I really enjoyed reading. Blessed.

Thanks for this very green and uplifting lens filled with incredible photos like "plant leaf with a tear of happiness! I love house plants but some of them are not very easy to take care of except bamboos according to my personal experiences. Your lens is a tremendous help. Thumbs up

I like the picture of the pothos plant in a vase. Living in a small house means that space is always a cause for concern and having such creative uses allows me to display greenery around the apartment without taking up too much space. Thank you for the information.

Well done lens on our favorite easy care house plants! These are all plants that I have known quit well for years. Pothos are my favorite out of this grouping and the spider plants are me least favorite, only because they propagate so hardily I run out of room for them and you can't give them away because everyone else has the same problem! LOL. My all time favorite that I can not live without and is not featured here is the aloe vera plant. I have to keep at least one always growing for medicinal use. *Squid Angel Blessed* and I've added your link to My Squid Angel Wings to be featured in the "Home & Garden ยป Garden" neighborhood.
  • Graceonline Aug 12, 2011 @ 8:39 pm | delete
Three plants I miss more than any of the hundreds I have cared for over the years are my spiders, my huge coleus, and my mistletoe fig (ficus diversifolia). Those plants cleaned our air, filtered our light and graced our homes for decades. They were faithful, if silent, companions. Each time I gave one up, it felt as if I said goodby to a dear friend. Now that I can keep plants again, I am slowly rebuilding my mini forest.

Thank you for a beautiful lens and lovely images. Thoroughly enjoyed my time here.

I have a wide variety of houseplants from fussy African violets to cacti. I love my easy peace lilies, but my favorites of all are my CACTI. :)
  • ShirleySunshine Apr 2, 2011 @ 12:31 pm | delete
Very hard to say, I love large foliage plants, but gernaiums are tops for adding a little summer color to our flat in the winter. They will flower in a sunny window, the common red variety seems to do best. I have four plants in a large put here now, and there has been at least one or two flower heads on them all winter. Now there are quite a number of buds coming and soon it will be warm enough for geraniums to go back outside and give a good summer show. The smell of their leaves always reminds me of summer, so in winter I sometimes rub a leaf and shut my eyes as I enjoy the beautiful aroma of geranium leaves!

My most successful house plant is dveil's ivy, It was growing right around the roof in the kitchen until I took it out and cleaned it of the wildlife that had pervaded it. Now its greatly reduced in size but still going strong after some 25 years. Not bad. I love this lens.

First, thank you for stopping by my pages -- and thank you for posting this lens that has so many old favorites of mine that bring back the memories. I presently am keeping both an Easter cactus and Christmas cactus (really succulents, of course), along with an orphaned strawberry plant . . . but my favorite is the Christmas cactus, which is the unlikely offspring of my mother's plant . . . I found the younger plant struggling on against all odds after my mother's plant died, and I've been taking care of it ever since.
  • bethd821 Dec 8, 2010 @ 4:36 pm | delete
I don't do well with house plants. I prefer mine outside and with vegetables on them.
  • Pastiche Dec 8, 2010 @ 9:15 am | delete
My favorite plant is Christmas cactus. I've been growing one for 35 years that I got as a small cutting. It's quite big now, and I've given many offspring away over the years.
