Feather Hair Extensions

Hackles (long, narrow, vibrant tail feathers from roosters) are being used as hair extensions. They add color and texture to your hair. The feathers can be dyed, curled, straightened, and washed. They can last for months when well cared for.

My 10 year old daughter couldn't wait to get her feather hair extension. Some of her friends had them and it was now the must have item on her list. We were going to find a local salon that had them, but while we were at the Topsfield Fair we happened upon a booth that offered them, so in the chair she went. She got a single, deep-red/brown synthetic extension for $8.

I thought they were braided in, but I was wrong. They are just kept in place by flattening a micro bead at the top. It was super quick to put in, and watching it got me thinking it would be easy to do yourself at home. Below you'll find everything you need to put in your own feather hair extensions.
