The Purpose Of Your Cat's Urinary Tract
Isn't this a bit obvious? To pass urine right?
Yes, your cat's urinary tract passes urine, but what is urine? Your cat's urinary tract and her intestinal tract work together as her waste disposal system. Anything your cat cat can't digest, burn up in calories, or store in fat goes out the back door in the form of urine or stool. Her urinary system consists of a pair of kidneys, a bladder, two ureters, some sphincter muscles and a urethra. These tubes and muscles do all the dirty work to filter out excess fluids and waste from her bloodstream. What isn't used is expelled in the litter box - but she may miss it when she is suffering from a feline urinary tract infection.
You could think of the ureter and urethra as tubes, the bladder as a balloon and the kidney as a purifier. What do you think would happen to the tubes if the was something plugging the flow out of the bladder? What would happen if the tubes became blocked by balls of this garbage that is supposed to go out the back end?
Well, waste product can form small beads that block the tubes. When the bladder is sick it may shrivel up. Conversely, if the tubes are blocked and urine can't pass then you've got a balloon about to burst.
A cat with a feline urinary tract infection is feeling a lot of pain and she may advance into an emergency condition. It is not unusual for cats to die of a urinary blockage.
“You simply can not wait for your cat to get better on her own. Your cat needs help.”
Stop The Cause & Nip That Feline Urinary Tract Infection Fast
Understanding The Causes Leads To Prevention
How many times do we hear "An Ounce of Prevention Is Worth A Pound of Cure?" Do you find your self saying this after you forked out a Pound Of $20 greenbacks paying a vet bill for something you could prevent. Here are some causes of a feline UTI. When you understand what causes this problem you can take steps to prevent it.
- Stress is a proven factor in kicking up a feline urinary tract infection. Got a new baby, boyfriend, kitten or cat in the neighborhood? Changes in your cat's environment add stress to her body.
- Improper pH in her urinary tract. Usually this feeds into a bladder infection. Some standard treatments with antibiotics and sulfa drugs can actually aggravate this problem.
-
Inadequate supplies of filtered, fresh water. Place fresh water in bowls throughout the house. If she loves to drink out of the pot don't discourage her - but do flush the toilet.
Don't have a water filtering system...well at least make sure you change out her water bowls every day.
You can also give her some help to keep the proper pH in her bladder with these plants: berberis vulg and cantharis.
Boost Her Out Of A Feline Urinary Tract Infection Frenzy
An ounce of prevention...
What if all you had to do is add a pinch of an herbal compound to her canned cat food twice a day to prevent a feline urinary tract infection? Well, I don't want to over simplify steps you can take to prevent a feline urinary tract infection. You can, however, give your cat's immune system a boost with natural supplements especially designed for treating cats.
Not feeding canned cat food? It is one of the best ways to keep fluids in her body. Dry cat food tends to absorb her body fluids. You want her to get plenty of fluids to purge toxins lurking around in her urinary system.
Get a good canned food product. Many cat owners are switching their cats over to raw meat diets. After all, that's how they eat when they are without a human caregiver.
Finally, antibiotics will not help your cat's pH in her bladder. Antibiotics can even stir up other problems.
There are certain herbal compounds proven to maintain urinary tract pH and strengthen her immune system. They also help reduce stress and discomfort while she is recuperating. Herbal and homeopathic remedies have proven to be highly effective in the managing feline urinary tract infection related problems.

Get Her To the Vet For Diagnosis Of A Feline Urinary Tract Infection.
Remember, a urinary tract blockage can be fatal.
Aside from the fact that your cat has problems purging waste products, she is in pain.
Your vet can rule out a urinary tract blockage pretty quickly. She may test the urine unless your cat's bladder is voided - empty. In that case she will treat your cat's condition based upon your description of your cat's symptoms.
Be clear. Describe how long she stays in the litter box. Does she actually produce much urine or is it just drips and dribbles? Is she eating? Does she cry when she urinates?
Your vet will undoubtedly recommend a steroid to minimize the pain and help with any inflamed organs. Next she will give her a dose of antibiotic. Finally, she may recommend an intravenous injection of fluids to replace body fluids and help purge waste products.
