Are you ready for Thanksgiving?
Thanksgiving may seem like a challenging holiday for vegetarians, but it can be a fun adventure. This is an opportunity to enjoy a variety of great dishes, and at the same time, share the bounty of vegetarian food with your non-veggie friends and family.
I'm looking forward to hearing your holiday stories and your suggestions for a successful Vegetarian Thanksgiving. I'd also love to hear from meat-eaters that may be concerned about providing alternatives to their vegetarian guests.
Turkey Alternatives
Save the turkeys, save the world
- Celebration Roast
- This is a yummy vegetarian roast stuffed with butternut squash, apples, and mushrooms.
- Gardein Stuffed Turk'y Roast
- These are amazing! You can find them in the prepared foods section of Whole Foods. They are breaded and stuffed with a super tasty cranberry stuffing.
- Quorn Turk'y Roast
- Quorn is another really yummy meat alternative made from a product called mycoprotein. They have a nice roast perfect for Thanksgiving, however it does contain egg and milk ingredients.
- Tofurky Roasts
- This is our family's favorite vegetarian roast for the holidays. It's very tasty, already has stuffing in it, and it's easy to find in the regular grocery stores.

- This turkey rescue organization encourages people to feed turkeys, rather than eating them. They have turkeys available for adoption, and for those of you that live in the city, you can sponsor a turkey at the sanctuary.

- We don't celebrate Thanksgiving in Slovenia, so nothing special. i like your list of meat alternatives. I know too many vegetarians who compensate their need for 'something stronger' with sugar, which is also not healthy habit. It is good to know we have a lot of better options!

- I love Quorn! I think if more people would try it they'd be pleasantly surprised. The texture and taste is great and can be used to replace meat in so many recipes. Unfortunately it's not currently available everywhere in the States, although easy to find in the UK.

- We already had our thanksgiving in Canada, but I wanted to angel-bless this lens. Turkeys are awesome as pets and the heritage ones are smarter than your think. Nosy and curious is what I'd call them! Happy Thanksiving everyone.
