Findhorn Gardens. The beginning of the Findhorn Foundation
Back in 1962 Eileen and Peter Caddy, along with Dorothy MacLean, took up residence at Findhorn Bay Caravan Park which is near to the village of Findhorn. At the time, living here was more a necessity rather than the realisation of a dream for this group and at times survival was less than easy. In order to supplement the little money they received from state benefits, they started to grow their own vegetables. The garden proved to be very successful in the amount and quality of vegetables that they produced. This, they were convinced, was due to the spiritual guidance that each received. As time passed, the garden attracted a steady stream of visitors, some of whom decided to stay and work alongside them. So began a community which was based on the principles of spirituality.
Since that time, the Findhorn Foundation has flourished and has become a world leader in community living.

Spirituality
The teachings of the Findhorn Foundation
This group do not follow any of the traditional faiths in particular, although they respect the beliefs of such faiths. Rather than that, they follow a path of spirituality and encourage followers to develop along their own paths. This is achieved through experiencing your own spirituality by taking part in various activities at the foundation. As well as offering residential opportunities to take part, they also offer self learning through a program known as "The Quest". Watch this video to learn more about the Findhorn Foundation.

The Findhorn Ecovillage
How the foundation has evolved
Over the years, the Findhorn Foundation has grown from its humble beginnings into a thriving community. Following their beliefs that bringing spirituality into everyday living brings great benefits, the Findhorn Ecovillage has become a major driving force worldwide in sustainable living. This way of life, and the Ecovillage itself, has produced a model that is taught in a number of universities and schools around the globe. The Findhorn Foundation is a founder member of the Global Ecovillage Network, which is a non profit organisation, and shows exactly how a community can reduce its carbon footprint and help the world to achieve a more sustainable way of life.
In this video, Eco building pioneer John Talbott talks about the concept of the Ecovillage.

I think Ecovillages are the way forward, What about You?
Your chance to have a say about Eco Living
Ecovillages, Good idea or not

Good Idea
CCGAL says:
The Hutterite Colonies have been flourishing in the USA - they are bound by their religious beliefs, but their way of life is an example of cooperative living.
Tracey_M says:
Of course, a fantastic idea. In this crazy world of mass consumption where nobody stops to think, it's fantastic to have initiatives who remind us of what's important.
Bad Idea
