The Greatest Sci-Fi Show Ever

Ranked #26,818 in Entertainment, #329,977 overall

Firefly was a TV series that ran back in 2002 on FOX and due to poor management on FOX's part, was cancelled before it could ever reach the upper atmosphere. This however did not stop the show from gathering a cult following, which in turn led to comic books and even a movie (Serenity).

FOX's lost would become Universal's gain.

Browncoats and Alliance, it doesn't matter, because when Firefly is involved we all aim to misbehave.

Synopsis

The story of Firefly takes place some five hundred years into the future, where mankind's greatest enemy is well himself. The theme of the show is best described as a space western; clothing, buildings, and weaponary all look like they came out of an old western, but with an added touch of Science Fiction from time to time.

We follow Capt. Malcolm Reynolds (Nathon Fillion) and his crew aboard his firefly class starship "Serenity" as he travels out farther into the black away from the core worlds, keeping mainly to new terra formed planets and out of reach of the Alliance.

Could It Happen

Great news everyone, a beloved cancelled sci-fi show is again preparing to fly, FUTURAMA.

I know not what you wanted to hear, but deep deep down this news does provide a small glimmer of hope. Futurama has been cancelled much longer than Firefly and if it can fly again, why can't good ole Serenity pull herself together and get there too.

Remember it never hurts to badger big corporations about these things, because who knows, they may eventually give in.

Behind The Scenes Politics

So how did this show gather a cult following and where did FOX go wrong?

Well as far as FOX is concerned they really messed this one up.

First they would play an episode, then skip a week or two, play an episode, skip a week, get it.

Most of the episodes were played out of order, including the two hour pilot which was aired last. It seems to me that when you create a two hour pilot, its purpose is to explain a lot of the basic knowledge that you need to have for future episodes, so shouldn't this have been played first?

Then again at least the pilot was aired, FOX actually cut three of the fourteen episodes out of the run because they deemed their plots to be to risky to air. ARE YOU KIDDING??? Is FOX not the channel that airs Family Guy and American Dad?

Science Fiction tends to gather a cult following for about ninty nine percent of its content. There are really is no actual explaination for this other than some people love the ideas contained in the show while others wish it would just crash into the sun.
