thanks for sharing this. A friend recently asked me to go skydiving. I am excited, but TERRIFIED.
  • traveller27 Jan 23, 2012 @ 10:31 pm | delete
I used to fly a small plane, but have never thought of skydiving - you're brave!
  • scarlettohairy Jan 23, 2012 @ 3:40 pm | delete
Extreme? Hmmmm. Being married for as long as I was. Yikes!
  • veryirie Jan 23, 2012 @ 3:38 pm | delete
Ohhhhh! hahaha It sounds like your second time was even more scary than the first. (Probably because you knew what was coming.) OMGosh! What a brave thing to do. I always wanted to do it, but was too chicken. Bravo for you! :)
  • hntrssthmpsn Jan 23, 2012 @ 3:09 pm | delete
Oh my gosh, you're brave. I dream about flying a lot, and have always been intrigued by the notion of skydiving, but alas... I'm a total wimp about heights! Thanks for the vicarious thrill!
  • tylo Aug 7, 2011 @ 5:25 pm | delete
Great job! I have gone skydiving too. I went back and did about thirty jumps. I have not done it in years and after reading this I kind of want to go again!
  • Ramkitten Jun 15, 2011 @ 10:10 am | delete
You're definitely braver than I am! I'll just watch from the ground, thanks. But it was fun reading about your experience. *Blessed by your neighborhood Squid Angel*
  • supermom_in_ny Jun 13, 2011 @ 12:45 pm | delete
You are very adventurous and brave! I give you a lot of credit. I could never do it, unless my life or the lives of my kids depended on it...

    ;)

I went skydiving a few years ago (pre-kids) with my husband. I went tandem and he did an all day class and went by himself. I think we're both done. My brother and his (then) girlfriend went with us. Then my bro convinced his gfriend to go again a few months later. He proposed as she landed with a huge sign. It sounded pretty cool for them. I'm not planning to jump out of planes any time soon. Cool lens!

It does sound incredible and I'm in awe of your courage to make that first jump. I've only ever been on a tandem flight so I'd love to go solo. It's the sort of thing you'll look back on at the end of your (hopefully very long!) life and say "I'm glad I did that".

I'm not sure I'd have the guts! Nice lens, thank you
  • stuhaynes Dec 18, 2010 @ 10:48 am | delete
I'm not sure I'd have the guts, but I think I'd like to try it. Good lens this. Thumbs up!

I am too chicken to jump, since having kids, I (for some reason) have lost my drive to do stuff like this. Before kids though, the most extreme thing I had done would have to be going on the superman ride where you go from something like 10 stories high to the groung in only a few seconds. Gives me goose bumps just thinking about it!
  • CreativeArtist Nov 15, 2010 @ 11:24 am | delete
For me it was a helicopter ride. My hat's off to you!
  • Susan52 Nov 10, 2010 @ 6:29 pm | delete
I can't think of anything I've done that would be considered extreme, especially in the sports whelm. Wow, I'm so proud of you for doing that, even if it was a million, I mean 20-some or so years ago. Most people have skydiving on their bucket list. Yours is all nicely crossed off. Good for you!
  • stargazer00 Nov 8, 2010 @ 6:18 pm | delete
I'm not into any kind of extreme sport. My husband was airborne in the army in the Vietnam era. He loved it and has 100 jumps! Lensrolled to http://www.squidoo.com/stories-of-vietnam
  • steveffeo Nov 8, 2010 @ 4:48 pm | delete
You got guts I jumped out of a few helicopters in the military (actually repelled) but never a plane great lens
  • aishu19 Nov 8, 2010 @ 4:15 pm | delete
Its incredible that you did try jumping out of the plane once..I dont think I got that guts
  • pmolinero Oct 10, 2010 @ 7:05 am | delete
Chapeau, I would never have the guts to jump out of that plane.

Now for your second one come to Brazil.
Boituva is the best place to do so.
  • ElleDeeEsse Sep 17, 2010 @ 4:57 pm | delete
I'd love to travel to Brazil one day but I think my skydiving days are over

My first jump was in June of 1976 at Ripcord West, just outside Washington, MO. I hated the ride up, and nearly backed out when my jumpmaster told me to get out onto the step of the plane. For some reason, while hanging there on the side of the aircraft, I was incredibly calm. The command, "Go!" came, and I let go of the wing strut and started to fall away.
Ripcord West had a great service where they took a "First Jump" photo, which was a photo of your face as you let go of the strut. In spite of the fact that I was not quite 22 years old, my face looks like that of an 80-year old man.
It was a static line jump, so the parachute opened automatically. Once I got "under canopy" it was one of the most incredible experiences I have ever had.
    Did I jump again?
    You bet!
    Do I still jump?
Let's just say that now I'm a whole lot wiser now than I was then.
    Thanks for the memories.

Amazing! I've heard a story of a guy who made his first jump to find out if skydiving can dry a wet shirt :)
  • ElleDeeEsse Jun 4, 2010 @ 6:36 pm | delete
    Did it?
  • SoyCandleLover-Maker Apr 8, 2010 @ 7:29 pm | delete
There is no way I could do this. I would have started first at the pub, and ended there. I give you a boatload of credit. A lot of credit, because I thought it might end in an April Fools Day punchline. :D Great story.
  • HorseAndPony Mar 15, 2010 @ 9:47 pm | delete
Great story. I have done way too many extreme activities. I come from a long line of fearless thrill seeking family members. Once I had my daughter I felt the need to be a little less reckless. So now we just gallop our horses through the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Hope to someday cross the Continental Divide. :)
  • paperfacets Feb 18, 2010 @ 7:18 pm | delete
This is the first story about jumping out of a plane I have come across on Squidoo. Wow! and doing it again. Now you can be honest and say It is not for me. Fun story.
  • sandyspider Feb 17, 2010 @ 11:07 pm | delete
I had a cousin you was killed hand gliding, but I have always wanted to do this. What an experience you had!
  • skiesgreen Feb 17, 2010 @ 6:23 pm | delete
its not something I could do and I admire you for having taken the plunge. We have often watched skydivers from my sisters home in Camden, near where you jumped, an all I could feel was amazement that someone would or could actually do this. Great lens. Top marks and lensrolled to Fun in the Great Outdoors where I will also feature it.

  • ElleDeeEsse Feb 17, 2010 @ 7:03 pm | delete
Thanks Norma. I have friends and family in the Camden area as well.
  • WendyKrick Feb 16, 2010 @ 4:40 pm | delete
I don't think I could do it. But you are awesome!
  • Pukeko Feb 15, 2010 @ 9:57 pm | delete
Great memories here. I did the same static line jump on my 20th birthday - back in the early 80s. Great job describing it all here.
  • OhMe Feb 15, 2010 @ 8:13 pm | delete
I used to think I wanted to Skydive but not anymore especially after reading this. lol It just sounds like it would be such fun but I am really getting to be a big chicken in my old age. Thanks for sharing this super first!
  • Joan4 Feb 15, 2010 @ 7:55 pm | delete
I could not do that! I hope you have a big picture on your wall to commemorate this occasion! I am totally impressed!
  • ElleDeeEsse Feb 15, 2010 @ 8:02 pm | delete
I wish I did! Sadly I don't even have the first jump certificate to prove I did it because they had run out and being slack I didn't follow it up.
  • bdkz Feb 15, 2010 @ 7:40 pm | delete
WOW! I don't think I could do that : ) You are one brave woman.
  • KarenTBTEN Feb 15, 2010 @ 7:38 pm | delete
Very nicely told story. I can't even jump into a swimming pool.
  • rms Feb 15, 2010 @ 5:56 pm | delete
Love that t-shirt. :) Hmm.. Only $17.00 for a second jump? I think they'd have to pay me a million dollars before I'd take my first jump! Great lens written by a very brave soul!
  • jptanabe Feb 15, 2010 @ 5:45 pm | delete
Still chuckling, but no, I'm not ready to take my first jump out of a plane! I reckon skydiving is not my sport. My daughter would probably love it though ...
