- The 12 Volt battery (looks like a garden tractor or motorcycle battery, inside the rear passenger fender, under the cargo area floor) should last from 5 to 8 years. If you run it dead (run the radio with the Power off, leave a lamp on overnight, etc.) it won't last long at all.
The only place to get a replacement is at the Toyota dealer. It costs about $130 - $180, depending on whether you swap it or pay them to do it. Although that seems to be overpriced, it's a special battery that won't leak the acid if the car turns over (Absorbent Glass Mat, or AGM battery). You can save a few bucks by modifying a slightly cheaper model, but it's really not worth the work.
Your driver's door window will forget to auto-up/down and your radio station presets will disappear when you yank the 12 Volt battery. Just roll the window all the way up and down a few times and reset the stations. A few other odds and ends will reset, but the odometer is unaffected.

- It does seem economically sound to rebuild your prius hybrid battery than just buying a new one.
