A Creative Edge on an Otherwise Boring Chore

As a public relations specialist, it is not uncommon to discover a situation requiring a press release to inform the public. Generally, there is not much notice before a press release is due. There have been several times when I have arrived at work only to find a frantically scrolled note or an urgent message on my machine.

The problem with press releases is that they are never convenient and cannot by put off. Seeing as the purpose of a press release is to distribute facts in the shortest and most simple of terms, it becomes difficult for the writer to incorporate any sizable amount of creativity. However, I have discovered a few tricks to make the chore of writing press releases slightly more bearable.

First of all, when applicable, timing is key. For example, upon finding myself surprised first thing each morning with the need for press releases, I finish them on the spot. This method prevents undesirable end-of-day stress when you finally get back to the desk just to realize that there is more work to do before the day will end and allow you rest.

The previous approach may not be possible or applicable in every situation in which cases I simply suggest setting apart a certain time each day to sit and complete such tasks. What it really comes down to is organization.
