Flute Stand

One extremely over looked, but useful tool is the flute stand. Flute stands are useful in keeping your flute safe. Many times, at festivals, people will just leave their flute on their chair. That is really dangerous, since people can come by and just knock it off the chair. Protect your precious flute by purchasing a flute stand.

You may also need a flute stand if you also play piccolo. Balancing instruments can be a real challenge.

I recommend a K & M Flute Stand (3 legs with rubber feet) or a Hercules flute stand.

Choose the K & M Stand if you need more portability. Definitley choose the three legged one. Three legs are more stable than four. Also, thee stand with three legs has rubber on the end of each leg, so that way it won't slide around.

The Hercules stand holds three instruments, which is a plus if you only want one stand. The nice part of the Hercules stand is that you can use the two flute pegs for clarinets, as well.

Taking care of your lips is very important.

Chop Saver Lip Balm is specially formulated for musicians, so it won't harm your flute in any way.

Private Teacher

A private teacher, in my opinion is the most vital tool to have. A private teacher teaches you flute technique such as double tonguing and notes. Also, they give you help where you need it most. If you try to learn flute of the internet, you could do something wrong, and have it "in your head" and it will become a bad habit.

I need to get one of those flute stands. The one I have has a peg for flute, a peg for clarinet, and a place to hold my saxophone. Great if I am using all of them, but too much if I'm only using flute on the gig! Actually, it would be nice to have a stand for flute and pic. =D

If you want a good flute and piccolo stand, get a Hercules stand with two flute pegs and a piccolo peg. That way you have one stand instead of two. It's under my section for flute stands.
