Job hunting is difficult. There is nothing intuitive about it. In this lens, I introduce the basics, plus some advanced techniques. Whether you are a new entry-level job seeker, an executive level candidate or just someone looking to advance your career, I hope you'll find some useful information here. It's just a starting point, though. Please take some time to explore the links, or pick up some of the books that are recommended. But don't stop there. At the heart of every effective job search is action. Start moving and keep the momentum going. Update your resume, check out some employment Web sites, find a career coach, attend a networking event, etc.

Daily Rant

Your Competition Sucks

I've been a job seeker enough in my life to know how discouraging it is, and how challenging. But when I spend time on the employer's side of the desk, I'm reminded of just how lame most job seeker's efforts are:
- Typos on resumes
- Typos in online applications
- Failure to answer online pre-screening questions
- Show up late for interviews
- Show up for interviews dressed poorly
- Show up for interviews empty handed
- No questions for me during interviews

Most of the people who apply for my job openings are way under- or over-qualified. (Did they read the ad?) Those who interview with me generally fail to follow up. The list goes on.

This is good news for intelligent, conscientious job seekers. Most of your comeptition is pretty lame. So keep working your job search .... good, better, best!
