Foreclosure Prevention - Don't Ignore Your Mortgage Payment Difficulties

Foreclosure Prevention

There are a lot of different things that people are trying in order to Avoid Foreclosure on their homes, but that doesn't mean that all of them will work. For example, the most common tactic of ignoring the problem is the least effective. There are a variety of reasons why people choose to ignore the notices of payment due and the phone calls that can come from their mortgage lenders encouraging them to pay. One of the most common ones is embarrassment. After all, not being able to fulfill one's end of a contract can be humiliating. Another reason many people ignore notices and phone calls from their mortgage lenders is that they're afraid that a sign of financial weakness will prompt the mortgage lender to repossess their house sooner than they otherwise would. Perhaps a minority of people who ignore their lenders simply hope that the problem will go away and many more probably don't believe that there's anything that can actually be done to prevent the foreclosure.

The truth is that there are ways to Prevent Home Foreclosure and that none of these tactics will do the job. Refusing to talk to the lender because of embarrassment doesn't make sense. First of all, losing the house to foreclosure will be even more embarrassing and second, the lender also probably shares a good deal of the blame for the terms of the mortgage as well. After all, the lending counselors were professionals who should have known what you'd be able to afford and under what conditions you could afford it. They also should have insisted on getting proper documentation from you so that they could verify their estimates. When it comes to fear that the lender will repossess the home at an indication of financial weakness, the lender already knows that your financially weak simply because of missing your payments. Mortgage lenders also don't want to foreclose on a home unless they absolutely have to. That's because foreclosure costs lenders a lot of money and is an annoying thing to have to deal with. If ignored, the threat of foreclosure definitely won't simply go away.

The most reliable way to avoid foreclosure is to talk directly to the mortgage lender and be completely honest about your financial difficulties. Another course of action is to contact a foreclosure assistance agency. Foreclosure assistance agencies exist to help homeowners Stop Foreclosure by offering sound financial advice, providing advice about the laws governing mortgages and the foreclosure process, and in many cases providing representation for homeowners when dealing with mortgage lenders. All of this can make a big difference when it comes to maximizing the chances of keeping a home. It's certainly a better strategy than ignoring the mailings and phone calls from the lender.

Options that a foreclosure assistance counselor can guide you through include forebearance and forming a repayment plan in order to get over some temporary financial hurdles. A long term solution would be to lower your monthly mortgage payment through refinance or mortgage modification, and in the event that buying the house was a mistake in the sense that you'll never be able to meet the necessary payment, the foreclosure assistance counselor should be able to convince the lender to accept a short sale.

Foreclosure Assistance Counseling is the best way to maximize your ability to hold onto your home while minimizing the risks.
