Frank Netter

Frank Netter has created one of the most gorgeous books on Anatomy with such detail to attention, it's astounding. His work is admired by many. His Atlas of Anatomy sits on my shelf, and is always THE FIRST book on anatomy I recommend to people. While he was a physician and artist, it was his medical illustrations that people attach his name to.

He is quite frankly "The Medical Illustrator" that stands above the rest. It's his attention to detail, and the lifelikeness of his work that showcases the body so well as students everywhere learn anatomy.  

Frank Netter was a physician during the depression, and he found that you just couldn't make a living at that point. People couldn't pay, and he found a greater interest in his artwork. His medical drawings became more desired than surgical work at this point.  At one point, the demand was so much more for his drawings, that he decided this is the direction his career would go, and he gave up his medical practice.
