Who is Fred and why should I watch his movies?
Fred Dalton Thompson is a former US Senator from Tennessee. He began his career as an attorney who served as an assistant US Attorney and then the Minority Counsel to the Senate Watergate Committee.
His movie acting career began in 1985 and he has since played in many movies alongside stars such as Tom Cruise, Gene Hackman and Clint Eastwood. You may also know him from his recent television role as District Attorney Arthur Branch on NBC's Law & Order.
Fred was first elected to the Senate in 1994 to fill the remainder of Al Gore's term. In 1996, Fred overwhelmingly won re-election to the Senate. He chose to leave the Senate when his term ended in 2002. During his Senate campaigns, Fred was known for driving across Tennessee in a used red Chevy pickup truck that he also drove to Washington DC for his swearing in ceremony.
What else? Oh yeah, he's also a former candidate for US President in the 2008 presidential primary race. He dropped out of the race on January 22, 2008, after finishing 3rd in the South Carolina Republican primary.
