I do local calls in Austin, Texas. Here are some of the issues I have ran across. The number one adware/spyware that is out there is a program called Antivirus XP 2008 or/and Antivirus XP 2009. It starts out as a notification at the bottom right hand side of your screen. If you get a warning sign of this nature and it says you have a virus and that you need to download a program do not and I repeat do not do this. Sometimes these rogue anti-spyware program trick you to download their fake products. Just remember you do not need mutiple Anti Virus protection. This is something that I will add later. Anti Virus XP has to remove manually. Go to the control panel and click on add/remove icon. Look for Anti Virus 2008 and click on remove. Reboot and see if it is still there. The problem with this virus/adware is that it tries to reinstall itself after a remove and reboot. Anti virus 2008 places code in several location. You need to check in startup and in the windows program directory. Edit your registry may also be needed.

Very close behind the Anti Virus 2008 virus is a problem that I believe a lot of people are having. Almost 100% of the time a new system from the factory has some form of Norton or Mc Afee Anti Virus pre installed on the hard drive. The problem is the software only comes with a limited 30 days. Once this is over the software stops updating and your system is at risk. If you ignore the warnings to renew your system is at risk. Just ran into the threaded Antivirus 2008 which is a counterfeit antispyware. If you get a popup box that says your computer is running slower than normal it may be infected with Adware, Spyware and Virus. Do not click OK or cancel. Worked on two notebooks today. One system would boot however it would only go to a blank desktop screen. Reboot to safe mode and scan PC with my system scanner and rebooted to Windows and I was able to get into Windows normally. Not sure what virus this is but I have seen it before. Worked on a notebook that had a spyware or adware issues. The system was locking up and stating to hang. Or you getting .dll errors on startup. If so they can be fixed. Normally it could be a problem with a missing files that is trying to load in your Windows startup. I find a new tool by Trend Micro that is called Hijackthis. If persistent spyware is bogging down your computer, you might need HijackThis. The tiny program examines vulnerable or suspect parts of your system, such as browser helper objects and certain types of Registry keys. Pressing the Scan button generates a log of dozens of items, most of which are just customizations.

WARNING PLEASE READ
Don't check off an item and hit the Fix checked button unless you're sure it's malware. Clicking Info on selected item tells you why the entry was flagged as suspicious, but not whether it's actually malware. To find that out, search the Web for that item's name or go straight to a forum, such as SpywareInfo or Computer Cops. Saving the log creates a text document you can post to these forums.

Most of the issues that I run into recently are problems with Adware Spyware and hijacking of the browser software. Basically when you start your internet brwoser it goes to a website that you do not want to go to.
