Photoshop is Now ONLINE and FREE!

Want to make your Squidoo Lenses POP? Don't want to pay the bucks to download photoshop or another photo editor to your computer?

No problem. There are now SEVERAL quality free online photo editors. INCLUDING PHOTOSHOP! That is right. Photoshop now offers a free version of their popular photo editor online. See below for more information.

Professional Photoshop

I love Photoshop. I have used Professional Photoshop for about 7-8 years now and am hooked. With Photoshop, any photographer can look like a professional, because with Photoshop you can do so much to make a dull photo look bright and alive.

But Professional Photoshop is not cheap. The current Photoshop software cost $650-$800 dependingon where you buy it (Photoshop Softwear offered below is actually a very good price). Of course, you could use limited versions such as Photoshop Elements or you could use other less expensive editors. But NOW you can do much of what you will need to do, FREE and ONLINE!! What can be better???

Adobe Photoshop CS4

Released only in October 2008, this edition is the latest version of Professional Photoshop and will likely be around for a while. It is expensive, but this is the KING of photo editors. If you want to have your photos look like a pro, buy this softwear and get a good tutorial and your photos will shine in no time.

Photo Editing Using Professional Photoshop

Some months ago I was working on a lens about Gummi Bears. I wanted to add some life to it, so I did a creative photoshoot of Gummie Bears. I bought a pack of Gummi Bears ($1.00 or so), put them into creative Gummi Bear 'Poses" and did a shoot. The photo above is the original. I used a penlight to create the glowing lighting effect. The photo below is the result of about 10 minutes of work with Photoshop (professional software downloaded on my computer).

(You can see the other photos of the photoshoot on this lens about Gummi Bears.)

I Did This With Professional Photoshop

How Did I Change The Image Above?

Using FREE Online Photoshop I Turned the Photo Above Into the Cartoon Below

Today I discovered the FREE online Photo Editor and starting with the photo above and using the Free online Photoshop, I quickly created the cartoon below. You can see the steps that I took to create this image in this step by step description:
  1. Sign up for Photoshop.com
  2. Uploaded your photo
  3. In editing mode Crop, Brighten and touchup your photo as necessary.
  4. Click on "Decorate"
  5. Click "Animals" and select an animal to add
  6. To add the 'Talk Bubbles' click on "Bubbles" and select the bubble you would like to add to the photo
  7. With your mouse, click inside the bubble and add text.
  8. Click "Add" so that the bubble is added to your photo and Click "Finish" to save your photo.

Photoshop Elements

Photoshop Elements is a simplified version of Professional Photoshop created sold at a MUCH lower price (about 85% LESS than the Pro version). If you prefer to have Photo editing software on your computer so you don't have to work via the internet this could be the product for you.

GREAT! I need all the help I can get.

spirituality says:

I use photo editing software all the time. Cheating? Are you kidding? I never saw the text I want on my pictures in real life before...

Frankster says:

They are terrific for the non-professional. A must have if you blog, make websites, Squidoo, even fun for personal use.

Janusz says:

Super! very easy to join & get started ;) thanks for this one.

Cheating! Photo editors take the craft out of photography.

Photobucket Photo Editor

You may not be aware that PhotoBucket, the Photo Sharing Site ALSO has an excellent and Free online Photo Editing Softwear.

As far as Online Photo Editors, I have more experience with Photobucket's online editor than the online version of Photoshop.

I have been working with the Photobucket editor for several months (and I just discovered the Free Photoshop editor today). I love the Photobucket editor! It is very easy to use and can do alot of things that I have not been able to do with my Professional Photoshop. I have created exciting photos for several of my lenses. for example:
Ugg Shoes
An "artistic" looking photo of Ugg Shoes I created using Photobucket Photo Editor. Looks cool.
Marilyn Monroe
I turned Marilyn's most famous photo into an Andy Warhol type work of modern art, using photobucket. It took less than 1 minute.
Rogaine
I turned this bald head into something that looks halfway between a photo and a work of art with photobucket online photo editor.
Link Drawing
My handmade drawings are messy. So I created this drawing using Photobucket on line photo editor.

Free Online Photo Editors

Now that you have had the quick tour, below you can click the links and visit the Online Photo Editors, Photoshop and Photobucket. If those don't float your boat, below that is a lens with a description of several more online photo editors. Now none of us have excuses for dull and drab photos.
Free, Online Photoshop
Photoshop's free online photo editor. Note that the site asks for your country and beneath that it says "Currently United States Only". I live in Europe and had no problems signing up. However, if you prefer not to, the photobucket site does not have this restrictriction.
Photobucket Free Image Editor
Photobucket's free online photo editor. I have been using it for months and love it. See links above for examples of images I have created using Photobucket's free image editor
Other Free Image Editors
If you are interested in free online Photo Editors, between Photobucket and Free Photoshop, you really do not to look further. However, if you do not like either of those two, Flighty02 has created a review of several other free photo editors. I have not tried any, but the lens is very well done.

GIMP- Free photo editing shareware that you can download

GIMP was started in 1995 by Spencer Kimball and Peter Mattis when they were students at UC Berkeley (Go Bears!) and has developed a life of its own.

As I understand GIMP is free photo editing softwear that is somehow competitive to Photoshop and yet different. As an owner of Photoshop, I can not say that I know too much about GIMP. But it is worth looking into. You can visit the GIMP website and read more about GIMP as well as see some photos from Flickr that have been manipulated with GIMP below.

If you are experienced with GIMP, please share your comments in the reader comment box.

I've been using Gimp recently. It's very powerful and relatively easy to use. And FREE is always good!

Great idea. Doesn't sound like I'll be doing it though. I've got both the gimp and a cheap version of photoshop on my pc. Together they do all I need.
