Homeschooling is becoming a more popular choice for a number of reasons for families around the world. However much is still unknown about curriculum, socialization, parenting, how to cope with running a home, looking after a family and homeschooling your children. And then disaster strikes, and perhaps the home becomes a single parent home. How does a single parent cope? How to avoid and/or identify areas that could become areas of concern? How can we do it all and still be great parents? How do we recognise that our child may have a learning difficulty or may be stronger in some aspects (subjects) than others? What curriculum, if any, do we choose to homeschool our child/children?
Do we unschool or adopt another approach?

The books on this page aim to answer all those questions and more, also relating to general queries and questions as parents we will often ask ourselves.

Within this page you will also find absolutely fantastic resources that can be used as "alone" curriculum or as an addition to curriculum, or can be adapted to lapbooking, notebooking or whichever method of education you have elected.

What I can say is that scrolling through the pages you are bound to find something of value that you can make use of if not in your own home, classroom or homeschool, then you will know of someone who will find the information useful.

When I started St Aiden's Homeschool some years ago it was with the intention of homeschooling my children after having NOT found a suitable curriculum. We are not spoiled for choice and the prices are astronomical. Added to the fact that I am a single parent, working full time at law (at that stage I was), homeschooling my kids and hosting and maintaining a website it seemed a waste not to share the resources we so loving researched, created and nurtured to the extent that they became eBooks. Not just printable worksheets - complete ebooks, unit studies with an immense amount of input and research into each one.

We decided to share these resources with many other families that we knew did not have the resources to pay for the ridiculously priced curriculum on offer in our country, particularly if one considers the poor quality that was on offer. It worked like a dream. Many thousands of families in South Africa now use our free ebooks as part of their daily homeschooling lives, and many parents have been inspired to undertake the same journey and start developing their own material which they willingly share.

While I also write books exclusively for a publisher and also for digital download now, my website is first and foremost in my mind and I keep it updated with fresh content constantly.

I hope that you will make use of a few of the tens of thousands of free resources we have available for teachers/homeschoolers/professionals/students/parents, and as you get to know St Aiden's Homeschool, you will see that we stop not only at learning to read and write. We go as far as College. And we will continue to grow and continue to provide free educational material to those who otherwise would not have the opportunity of obtaining same.

Yes, I am a proud homeschool mom and I love every minute of it.

And you're right. The homeschool demographic used to consist of mostly conservative Christian families, but now more and more people from diverse backgrounds are either homeschooling or considering homeschooling.

@SeanGarnham If you decide to homeschool using the classical model, I highly recommend you check out Classical Conversations. It's a homeschool community that will be great support for using the classical model at home.

My daughter is almost two, now, and she seems pretty advanced. (She could spell her own name at 18 months, and can identify some birds by their call.) We're pretty sure we don't want an ordinary public school to educate her. We both studied education, so we've considered homeschool, but we also are considering private school, or there is also a magnet school for the gifted about a mile away from our house. If she can get in there, we might go that route. I do seem to have an interest in the classical model of education, though, and that is hard to find in a school, without paying more than I can afford. Might go with homeshooling just for that.

I homeschooled my son for 18 months while we lived in an area that dod not have any services for students with special needs. We had lots of fun and although he loves the school he is in now (which is a great school), he did say he would like to do it again because he felt like he learned so much more- especially in science.

I do and I try to make some of my own to share- I can't get them to do the pdf download though so I have to post them as images! That is so cool that you did that!

I did the entire 1st semester of 1st grade (home school) using only free printables as we ran into money issues and could not order a "curriculum in a box" The free printables were better anyway because there were no wasted pages, we got do do things our way and they were more fun for my son as he was able to sit with me and choose ALL of his work for fridays- one of his rewards for not arguing about working the other days!

If I were homeschooling today, I would make massive use of the Internet for lesson plans and curriculum. As it is, I download and print a lot of material for my son's children to use in their homeschool activities. Gives the kiddos something to do at Gramma's house, too.
