I have only contributed $3100, but the rebate programs have contributed another $2199. That's like getting 70.9% cumulative return over the last 5 years or 14.2% per year. It's FREE Money.

The three programs are Upromise, Babymint, and Little Grad. I will start with Upromise on this page and then expand to the others soon.

4 Ways to Use Your Upromise Earnings

College Savings Plan 529

Upromise recently changed their program to include additional ways to use your Upromise rebate money.

1. INVEST IN A 529 PLAN. You can have the money directly deposited into your 529 college savings plan as I have described.

2. PAY DOWN A STUDENT LOAN. You can have Upromise pay down your Sallie Mae student loan balance. Upromise will automatically transfer your Upromise balance to your Sallie Mae loan every quarter when your account has at least $25.

3. GIVE TO OTHERS! You can choose to transfer your Upromise earnings to someone else who is saving for college thru Upromise. This option is great for grandparents, or family and friends who do not have a child of their own whom they are saving for.

4. TAKE THE CASH!! Upromise recently added this option to allow you to take your savings in the form a check and use it for whatever you want! This option, in essence, makes Upromise a valid CASH BACK rebate program that is especially rewarding if you are an online shopper. I typically compare the cash back rates given by Upromise with others programs like Mr. Rebates before making a purchase.

You can also use the Upromise credit card to earn 1% on your purchases and have them automatically put into your kids 529 plan. If you are a self-employed or small business owner that uses personal credit cards for your business expenses, this can add up quickly. Also if you have recurring monthly bills that can be automatically charged to your card, you can also earn the 1% on your bills (like cable, cell phone, internet). BUT YOU MUST make sure in your personal budget you paying this card every month, just like if you were paying the bill. We actually make 2-4 payments a month (online) to our card, paying off that week's charges as they occur (just like I was paying with my checking account). We've saved a nice little sum of money that way using the card for our Phoenix Pool Service

This is a great way to use your credit card to earn college savings money instead of points. I know many parents are concerned about the rising costs of college and are wondering how to get ahead (or make back what they lost) on their 529 plans so I've independently analyzed the Best 529 Plans for our Clients and am happy to share my research and findings.
