Free Big Bang Theory Episodes

Ranked #735 in Entertainment, #8,839 overall

Finding free The Big Bang Theory episodes is not easy. CBS has decided not to offer full video episodes at the usual locations like Hulu, Veoh, or Netflix. The good news is that since syndication CBS has been putting up the latest episodes for free on the CBS website. However, only the latest four episodes and not the entire season.

Still, with some ingenuity there are ways you could get "free" episodes of any episode you would like. I quote free because many of the ideas actually involve you doing something for the episode. So, while you are not out any money from your own pocket, getting "free" The Big Bang Theory episodes may involve blood (hopefully not), sweat (probably), and tears (only if you fail or throw a tantrum).

Free Big Bang Theory Episodes Are On Television - Duh

This is old school but there are free Big Bang Theory episodes available every week on CBS. Or catch it on syndication. Those who, in these troubled economic times, got rid of cable, can still watch The Big Bang Theory over the newly digital airwaves. Think we just got spoiled with instant gratification, so much so we have even given upon responsibility for our own happiness. Tivo, DVR, VCR, and for the more technically proficient digital recording, all can feed any number of transportable video devices (iPod, DVD players, phones) that should give us the capability to watch any show, anywhere, anytime. Just need to take action and start recording all the free Big Bang Theory episodes one could want.

On a happier note, the only thing old VCR's may be good for is show recording. No more manufacturing of movies on video tape, getting a VCR to record the show should be no more than $5 at a garage sale and $1 for the tape new. There may even be free video tapes available at a garage sale, recordable tapes people are looking to give away. Stay in the "free" mindset and ask around, people are all over with VCR's in closets and garages that they would be happy to give away (along with their old CRT TV's).

Plus, catching the show for free has gotten even easier, the absolute best way to get free The Big Bang Theory episodes has arrived, the show has come to syndication. Warner Brothers, who produces The Big Bang Theory, has made a deal with TBS and Fox to air our favorite sitcom. So, those who have cable can watch the show on TBS. While the rest who have the ultimate in free television from the local airwaves can watch it on their local Fox affiliate channel. It has taken the show four years to build up enough episodes to go into syndication. The television stations want a series to have somewhere over 88 to 100 episodes so that the show can be aired daily without repeating too often throughout the year. Now, all that one has to do to get free The Big Bang Theory episodes is to set their DVR or rearranged their schedule to catch it on the airwaves.

The Big Bang Theory Is On CBS

Latest episodes are available online and offline

Watch The Big Bang Theory on CBSCBS has taken a circular route regarding episodes of The Big Bang Theory. During the first season, like so many other television shows there was a number of episodes that were available on the website and they were even available for purchase on iTunes. However, between the first and second season CBS took a totally different route. It was evident that TBBT was going to be a big hit and had huge potential for a big payoff in syndication. So, it was at this time, along with their other big property The Mentalist, that CBS took a major offensive of shutting down all channels for these shows. Even YouTube was scrubbed of any clips users posted.

And this is how it was four seasons two through four. The only way to watch The Big Bang Theory legally was the catch it on Thursday nights on your local CBS affiliate or to buy the box set of DVDs. Then after season four, The Big Bang Theory had enough episodes to enter into syndication.

With syndication the show is now available on television still on Thursday nights, and available with limited episodes available free on the CBS website and TBS website. On the CBS website the latest episodes of TBBT are available if you were to miss it on on-air. Also, the show is once again available on iTunes and Amazon for instant download of individual shows. In other words, now that The Big Bang Theory has reached syndication CBS has once again opened availability to find more episodes of the show.

Hurrah For Syndication

Record The Big Bang to your computer

A great way to capture and record The Big Bang Theory is to record it on your computer. Some computers come with a TV tuner included, while others may need some kind of TV tuner aftermarket. If your computer does not come with a TV tuner then you can buy a USB TV tuner which can catch broadcast signals or can be attached to a coaxial cable. Desktop computers can have a more permanent TV tuner card installed into one of its card slots. Regardless, how one gets a signal into the computer, once the computer is getting a signal it can be used as a TiVo.

Microsoft has the Windows Media Center which since Windows Vista and then Windows 7 is optimized to utilize the TV tuner to record programming. Upon set-up, one of the things it will establish is a programming guide to update for you. The programming guide will be based upon your geographic location and cable provider (or broadcast signal). After setup, the Windows Media Center will operate a lot like any DVR with the programming guide where one can select which programs to record. You can decide to record a single episode or to record the broadcast's regular time repeatedly.

This is my favorite way to record both new set episodes of The Big Bang Theory and older episodes in syndication. Trying to record every episode of TBBT? It would be a good idea to keep a spreadsheet to keep from rerecording episodes that you already have. Plus, a spreadsheet will help keep you aware of what episodes you are missing for your library and need to be vigilant about recording.

Free TBBT on TBS

Well, "free" for some of you

The Big Bang Theory on TBS

Notice that you have to login to get episodes.

As mentioned previously, when TBBT went into syndication there was a two-part deal made. Fox or their sister network the CW got first choice to air episodes locally. Nationally, TBS gets to air shows on basic cable. The former Turner network cable channels are known to try to capture a broad genre. TNT airs primarily dramas and uses the slogan "we know drama." TBS airs predominately comedies and uses the slogan "very funny." So, it was a natural fit for TBS to broadcast The Big Bang Theory when it went into syndication.

Free episodes of The Big Bang Theory can therefore be seen on TBS. Of course, just how free those episodes are, are a matter of perspective because the very nature of cable is paid television. However, with that in mind TBS does put on a high concentration of TBBT. Currently, on Tuesday evenings there is a three hour block of TBBT. On Wednesdays and Thursdays they put on a two-hour block of episodes. So, that means on midweek a person could watch between four to six episodes each evening, plus the 1 to 2 episodes that maybe on the local Fox or CW station.

TBS does offer "free" The Big Bang Theory episodes online at its website TBS.com. Again, "free" is relative because one has to login to TBS to view the episodes that are available. If you have a cable provider that has a relationship with TBS, then you can use that relationship agreement to create an account with TBS and view free episodes. This is not an unusual arrangement, as other television networks and cable channels are working such deals with cable providers. The number of TBBT episodes available will be limited as it is unclear how TBS is determining which episodes to make available online. It appears that it will stream some of the more recently aired episodes.

Free Big Bang Theory Episodes Via iTunes & William Hung

This is where one gets creative. The Big Bang Theory is available on iTunes and each individual episode is only $1.99. Couple that with the iTunes option of gifting a song or in this case a video- here is the scheme. Call up your buds and ask if they would pay $1.99 to hear you sing "She Bangs." If the answer is yes, then tell them what to do, gift you your favorite episode. If they say no, ask if they would pay $1.99 to NOT hear you sing "She Bangs." Either way you get some free Big Bang Theory episodes via iTunes.

Here is a link to the iTunes support page showing how to gift individual episodes.

Free Big Bang Theory Episodes In The Mail

Netflix is an exciting concepts. Having almost every movie imaginable on DVD and it gets shipped to you in the mail. When done ship it back and get the next. This is a great way to watch DVD box sets as you do not have to purchase the set to watch or try a series. When you consider this is a service you may already be purchasing, then watching is as free as watching a television show on cable. Same concept really, free Big Bang Theory episodes using Netflix (or Blockbuster's version).

Do not have a DVD mail subscription? Then try this, find a friend who does and simply ask them to get the series for you. If they are a hardcore movie buff who can have 3-5 DVD's out at a time, it should be no problem. One of the simplest favors they will ever do for you. When done return it to them or drop it in the mail. A tip of which friend to ask, the one who has had the subscription the longest, they will have used their must sees and be a casual watcher willing to give up some slots in their queue for your request.

Plus, Netflix does have a gift subscription available. Get it free by asking for it for Christmas, birthday, Mothers/Fathers Day, etc.

Trade For The Big Bang Theory Box Sets

Pawnshops are still a great place to barter

neon gun pawn shop - Springfield, Missouri by Marshall Astor - Food Fetishist, on FlickrPawnshops often have an excellent selection of popular box sets of DVDs. When people come in to pawn their DVDs, box sets get more money and of course the more popular the series the more they will receive for them. This is a great way to get rid of gifts you received but never even bothered to open. So, instead of risking an embarrassing re-gift, see if the pawnshops will do a straight across trade for that extra toaster oven that you received as a wedding gift. You may want to call first to see what box sets are in and if they are taking what you have to offer. Sometimes, pawnshops get too much of one item. Or they get seasonal about what they take- no lawn mowers in December, but can't get enough in June.

Otherwise, most pawnshops have a clear definitive value (pawn or trade-in) for single movie DVDs. Usually, somewhere around $1-$2 per movie DVD. Therefore, you would only have to collect that many movies to trade-in for a single box set of The Big Bang Theory. It is very likely you have more than enough DVDs on a shelf somewhere that you have not watched in a year and are more than likely to not watch next year. Put them to use and trade them in for something you will watch.

Use The Amazon Wish List

The wish list lets people know what you really want

People really do like to do things for other people. Especially, if it doesn't take much effort or cost a lot of money. They could be especially anxious to do it if they feel it relieves them of a future obligation or puts the other person in a future obligatory position. It is like collecting favors or chips that can be cashed in later. Also, people are always anxious to fulfill an obligation as quickly and as inexpensively as they can. Like when someone's birthday or Christmas is coming around, they may feel required to purchase a gift. They want to get rid of that obligation as soon as possible.

Therefore, you can use that sentiment to your advantage to pick up some free episodes of The Big Bang Theory. What you do here is add The Big Bang Theory to your Amazon Wish List. You can add either individual episodes for instant download, whole seasons of instant download, or the more tangible box sets. Once you have these locked and loaded in your wish list, point anyone who is considering a gift for you to the Amazon wish list. This might take some subtle doing so it doesn't seem like you're being too anxious for a gift, but at the same time you do want the right people to know that your wish list is out there.

The Big Bang Theory: The Complete Fifth Season

Amazon Price: $31.49 (as of 05/27/2012)Buy Now

So, if you feel your friends and family really don't want to spend a lot of money on you, you can put individual episodes on your wish list for $1.99. If you think you are worth more than two bucks to your friends and family then you can look at putting up entire seasons or complete box sets onto your wish list.

Free Big Bang Theory Episodes By Being A Pirate

I guess one could get their Captain Jack Sparrow on and try getting free Big Bang Theory episodes via piracy. These days that is probably torrent. This could be a pricey option for free content, as US penalty for pirated content is high. Then there are considerations like virus or spam masking as a video. Myself, I have found torrent slow and confusing, and not worth the effort. The risk/reward scale is too heavy on the risk side. But it is an option for free Big Bang Theory episodes.
