Ten Important Guidelines for creating a terrific Freshwater Fish Aquarium.
1. Think of your Freshwater Fish Aquarium as a miniature aquatic habitat for your fish. While we can't recreate nature exactly, we can closely imitate it, and that is our goal.
A Freshwater Fish Aquarium is not just fish tank, it is a living, breathing work of art.
2. Like us, fish like stability. That is the number 1 key to a healthy, beautiful Freshwater Fish Aquarium A good filter and an aquarium heater will go a long ways towards creating stability in your tank.
3. Use Nature's own biological filtration system.
Biological filtration depends on invisible beneficial bacteria that clean the water.
Don't worry, where there are fish, these little invisible poop-eating bacteria can be found also. Providing the right environment for these wonderful beneficial bacteria to multiply will help keep your tank clean and stable.
4. Add a canister filter to your tank to increase the amount of beneficial bacteria living in your Freshwater Fish Aquarium They are wonderful for providing biological filtration.
5. Bigger aquariums tend to be more stable and they are easier to take care of.
6. There are literally hundreds of tropical fish species on the market. Not all of them can live together in the same Freshwater Fish Aquarium. Do a little research and choose fish that will live together in good health in the same aquarium. Check out Aquarium Care, Tropical Fish Care for their Fish-Of-The-Month postings.
7. Avoid stocking your Freshwater Fish Aquarium with too many fish. A maximum ratio of 1 inch of fish per 1 gallon of aquarium water is recommended. This ratio applies to freshwater tanks only.
8. Stock your aquarium gradually. When you add fish to your tank in batches, you'll give the beneficial bacteria time to multiply to the levels needed to keep a clean tank.
9. Provide a varied diet for your fish but don't overfeed them.
10. Keep it simple and fun.
These ten guidelines will help you get started with your Freshwater Fish Aquarium.
