By the way... 6th -9th graders in US or US based schools (to include homeschooling) are eligible to participate in eCybermission. It is a virtual science fair. I was a judge for two years and have applied to be an ambassador. I believe this season has started, but I think your viewers (fans) might like to know about this awesome opportunity.

I enjoyed your frog lens very much, I have yet to see a frog since I have been home from Iraq. BUT, I am thinking that I will use some of your fabulous ideas to teach my grand-daughter about them when school gets out. I am new to Squidoo and I am in great hopes my lenses will grow as I learn. My lenses are about wildlife/ nature as I view it from the lens of my camera and as I learn about those things I photograph, I intend to share with my viewers as well. So far, this is what I have: http://www.squidoo.com/the-northern-california-coast

I participated in a frog anatomy class when I was young and all I can remember is how horrible the frogs smell from the formaldehyde. I think the idea of using computers to replace frog dissections in Biology Class is a good idea. LOL

i tasted frog legs for the first and the last time because the poor frogs have little meat in their skinny legs. you need thousands of frogs to get a real meal. i enjoy watching them swim in the creek and listen to them although they are so looooooooud in the evening. angel blessings.

Actually I tried frog legs once, Spencer, Iowa is not the best place to try frog legs.
    ***
There is a breed of crocodile that was thought to be becoming extinct so a group started a reserve for them. Turns out if you feed them right, they breed like mice, they just needed a little help. I am sure most frog breeds are similar, give them the right environment and they too will thrive.
    ***
We moved to a neighborhood that had Colorado River Toads, you would only see them when it rained, they are huge. A co-worker raised Akita dog breeds, they would chew on these toads and the toads excreted a hallucinogenic toxin that would make the dogs sick. They would get better and the next time you would think they would avoid the toads but either they forgot or worse... they liked it.

This is a great lens. I fondly remember my daughters "frogging", catching and putting back the frogs ot the local pond and provincial park. The eldest is 21 now, and we were driving the other night and I stopped when I saw a frog in the headlights. She jumped out to "save" the frog and put him safely to the side.

What a great lens! It was cute, informative, thorough, and witty. Almost all of my lenses have to do with business (http://www.squidoo.com/bootstrapping-how-cutting-down-may-be-the-key-to-a-successful-small-business), but it is great to read about other great topics... such as frogs!
  • AngelDey Jul 17, 2011 @ 7:49 pm | delete
I always love reading your lenses. They are so thorough and give me so many ideas for lessons for my son. With this one I was thinking we could expand it to pond life since we live near a large pond that attracts ducks, cranes, and loons as well as lot of interesting insects AND of course frogs and toads. We actually have a lot of frogs around our house and even rescue them from inside the house. We observe them when they stick to the front door and wait for bugs to come close enough. And yesterday we got to hold a Pacman frog and learned all about him from a local reptile and amphibian owner/teacher. But, of course, it's all just science. I like your unit studies and turning one topic into several lessons that are fun for kids.

What a strange question, let me see. Oh normally while walking Sam my black Lab dog, we will try not standing on them. Seriously, if the time of the year is right. The populous of the frog is in it's tens of thousands, where he gets walked and not standing on a poor little frog takes good concentration. Apart from this I have nothing compared to your frog obsession, wonderful lens though.

At one time we home schooled my two stepdaughters. This would have been a great lens to help with that schooling. One thing I noticed about home schooling was that the girls did not get sick. That was when I really learned what a cesspool of disease the schools were. Anyway, great learning lens. You put a lot of work into it and it shows. Thanks.

wow this is really neat, when I was a kid I was also very fascinated with frogs. I hope kids today could also value nature in the real world instead of having them in some computer game, I think it would also be neat to track the time of how frogs mature, i bet the time tracking app form tsheets would be really useful in that. Im kinda old but I think I wanna visit the old pond. Thanks for the great post.

Your pictures, your layout, your attention to detail - INCREDIBLE! This one lens alone gave me a ton of ideas I could use with my kids. You don't see frogs where we live now but when I was growing up, they were everywhere. In fact, that's what you did when I was a kid. You played with frogs. My kids saw one on a cross-country trip this past summer and they were fascinated. Great job on this lens!
  • Evelyn_Saenz Dec 13, 2010 @ 6:15 pm | delete
So sad to hear that there are no frogs where you live. Unfortunately, frogs are disappearing all over the planet. We need to stop polluting our environment and make sure that frogs have a safe place to live.

Wow! that is alot of Frog. I will look at it more carefully soon and let you know what we use. We already do alot of frog and toad. My older daughter, just 9, likes to wind toad egg strings around her arm as a bracelet or as a necklace I think looks very nice. even when you know what they are - to me at least.

I probably missed it in your extensive list. But there are some frog stories that are not in your list. Storynory's Bertie-the-frog stories. Very entertaining. Storynory, as you probably know, is a fabulous source of great free audio stories for kids. A new one every week. www.storynory.com. Thanks again. I am glad I discovered your lense.

I love this lens and have come back to look at it several times. I like to sing about frogs, especially as many people think their own voices sound like frogs. One of my favorite spring sounds are the peepers. When I sing to them, I like the way peepers sing back. Don't you?
  • Evelyn_Saenz Apr 25, 2010 @ 5:17 am | delete
Oh yes I do love to listen to the spring peepers. Here in Miami we shut the windows and turn on the air conditioners making it impossible to listen to the sounds of the frogs but when I to up to Vermont each summer all the little frogs are singing to me just outside the open window.

Great lens, I`m impressed. I expect I`ll be coming back to this once my kids are a little older, we`re just starting to homeschool for kindergarten right now with my oldest. I`m pretty sure they will be into frogs, though, both being boys!

I want to improve an impressive lens for my Amphibia Linnaeus friends. One is a song by Peter, Paul and Mary called "I'm in love with a big blue frog" since I saw your lens I cannot get it out of my head. The other has nothing to do with frogs. Three Billy Goats Gruff is part of a much larger Norwegian Tale called East of the Sun and West of the Moon.

My mother likes to collect froggy collectibles. She scours the papers for garage sales, and during weekends she would disappear for hours and come home with her precious 'frogs'. The house is very 'froggilly' decorated. ;-p

Great lense! I have 2 tree frogs. They tend to sleep during the day and are VERY active at night. They don't like to be held or touched. Some frogs burrow under the substrate in the tank.

"How do you incorporate frogs into you life?"
...We have tree frogs, and great lizards that naturally police our bugs. They enjoy hanging out by the building lights at night to catch extra bugs.

*Sadly or oddly, Florida does not YET have any insects or flying amphibians large enough to chase off helicopters. :)

**Nice to see your blog hopping up the ladder.
