Hors d'oeuver Recipies Using Fruit

A healthy alternative to some of the heavier appetizers, is fruit. With the natural sugar within these foods, even the process of making the hors d'oeuvers is as simple as the fruit itself.

Fruit Kabobs

Ingredients:
1 small jar of pitted maraschino cherries
1 small can of pineapple chunks
1 bunch of green grapes
1 banana, sliced to 3/4" pieces
Toothpicks

Directions:
Slide one of each fruit onto a toothpick.
Arrange on a white plate (to show off the natural colors).

Chocolate-Dipped Fruit

  • Dip a ripe strawberry halfway into melted chocolate; harden on waxed paper.
  • Have a supply of apple slices, berries, and other fruit, for guests to to dip into a fondu pot of liquified chocolate.
  • Roll slices of banana in chocolate sprinkles.

Spicy Cherry Salsa

Ingredients:

2 cups pitted fresh cherries
3 cups diced fresh tomatoes
1/4 cup sliced onion
1 small jalapeno pepper
1 Tablespoons sugar
1/4 teaspoon garlic salt
juice from 1 lemon
1 Tablespoon cilantro

Directions:

In a saucepan, crush the cherries and tomatoes. Bring to a boil. Simmer 20 minutes. Remove from stove, cool to room temperature. Add remaining ingredients. Chill at least 1 hour before serving.
