Futuro: The House Of The Future
The Futuro House was designed by Finnish architect Matti Suuronen in 1968. The Futuro homes were made out of polyester plastic and fiberglass. They resemble a flying saucer and reflect the 60's optimism of space travel.
The circular homes measure about 11 feet high and 26 feet across. Futuro homes have a hatch door, like the door of a small airplane, that opens to reveal steps. The steps and lead into a main room outfitted with six plastic bed-chair combinations and a central fireplace slab. They also have a kitchenette and one bathroom.

How the concept came to be.
Contrary to what you may think, Matti Suuronen did not just one day decide to build a spaceship home.The Futuro had its inception as an ordinary architectural commission. In 1965, Dr Jaakko Hiidenkari asked his former schoolmate, Matti Suuronen (pictured), to design a ski cabin that would be "quick to heat and easy to construct in rough terrain". The project´s working title was 'After-ski cabin'.
The rest is history.
