The Five Fuwa: One World, One Dream
These Cuties are the official mascots for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Each one represents a unique cultural aspect of China and bestows upon Children everywhere a special Blessing.
There was a bit of controversy during the actual olympics, and the 5 fuwa were not showcased as planned. I do not understand all the details. Perhaps someone who was there or involved can explain it. I think it had something to do with a perception of bad luck somehow.
Anyway, so that makes these little guys kind of special in a sad way. They never really got to have their "thunder".
Perhaps they will continue to live on in their own way, in the legends their trinkets and keepsakes generate.
I hope they will be around for the next summer olympics, to trade and remember, just as have all other olympic mascots.

They represent the five "friendlies" the 2008 Beijing Olympic Mascots!
Can't find anything cuter anywhere. These little adorable "good luck dolls" mascots are the sweetest representation of sportsmanship ever! Not just one mascot but 5? They are so rich in culture and meaning. Each of the 5 mascots represents some aspect of Chinese culture with their own individual blessing for you and for children everywhere. It's a really nice gesture and a fun way to celebrate the harmony of all cultures in the spirit of peace and unity among all nations in our small, small world:Beibei - the Fish / Sea: Blessing of Prosperity (Blue)
Jingjing - the Panda / Forest: Blessing of Happiness (Black & White)
Huanhuan - The Olympic Flame/ Fire: Blessing of Passion (Red)
Yingying - Tibetan Antelope / Earth: Blessing of Health (Yellow)
Nini - the Swallow/ Sky: Good Luck (Green)
As we watch the Olympics, let us remember the awesome spirit which has been with the Olympics since the very first in Athens, Greece so many years ago. A Peace truce instilled then is in effect again today. All of the world takes part in the celebration of unity, playing a friendly game, recognizing the beauty of culture everywhere and respecting each others' differences. It is, I think, one of the most powerful representations of goodwill to all!
