GypsyOwl Artwork Journey
Creating Art has been a GIMP & GO experience every day. I share my work and how it is used for great product design. Workshop information - How To Use GIMP for more than just artwork. Resources for artists and more.
My artwork is a combination of photography and my love of nature. I am a phtographer, and an artist. That is how I began creating photo art. I love to create digital artwork because it requires less space without losing the creativity nurturing that is very important to me. The effort that I put into it results in beautiful work as well.
I love to paint, draw, color, take photos, create digital art, and I also take my creativity into other areas such as cooking, sewing, writing, and teaching others how to nurture their creativity.
I will share my work, some of the techniques I use, how I use that work to create exceptional product designs, and how you can begin to explore this wonderful medium as well.
GypsyOwl's Studio & Gifts
GypsyOwl's Studio & Gifts is my showcase for Art done on the PC. I use GIMP software to create Art and then apply them to the products. The result is a stunning presentation of Great Gift Ideas for family, friends, and yourself. I also create Business Logo products.Istarted creating artwork on my pc because at the time I didn't have the resources to create a space with supplies to paint. My preferred medium is acrylic on canvas. Once I realized how much fun digital art can be, I continued to work with it long after I acquired paints and a work space.
GIMP is a wonderful software that is available online. With a little practice it can surpass any other software I have used when it comes to creating original artwork.
Photos can be touched up, used to set the color scheme of the work (for example; using a photo as bucket fill and using it for your pallete), or used to create movies (slideshows of art make great gifts), photo albums (send by email or copy upload to your favorite photo printing service) and much more. The most unique features of the software come into play when I am creating something from scratch.
About two years ago I started putting together a workshop to share the techniques that I use to create the artwork. I continue to share the results of that project about twice a year. The next session is scheduled for the beginning of July.
Join the Group if you would like to participate in the Summer Session of GypsyOwl's Nurture Your Creativity - GIMP for Beginner's group.
It is free, fun, and will provide you with the skills to move on to future workshops. Make your own artwork to customize gifts!

I Love The Oceanside
When I was a little girl, my grandfather would take me to the coast in the Santa Cruz, CA area. I remember even then having the sense that every problem one might ever encounter could be solved simply by sitting in the sand and listening to the waves. I still feel that way.

I Love Owls & I Love Butterflies
I have an owl friend who lives in my yard. I should say that I live in a yard that an owl friend allows me to roam freely on her turf. I am honored to have the opportunity to listen to Owl Songs and to catch a glimpse of the seasonal Baby Owl Flying Lessons.
Delightful butterflies, cardinals, hummingbirds, and more can be found in my backyard. I created the following design after I saw a butterfly who looked like an owl. I have not identified it yet. This is a whimsical abstract I designed after coming face to face with the Owl Butterfly. If you know what I saw, please pass on your knowledge to me. I would really love to know more about it.
Autumn Butterfly

These items are examples of product designs using GIMP artwork.
Take a very close look at the following designs. You will notice that each of them takes on the look of 'texture'. They are all artwork. I remember when I first created the Beads & Yarn Journal, I recieved a lot of questions about how it was made. The notes asked what kind of stones and fabrics I used. These are one dimensional images of artwork I have created using GIMP.
For a closer look at the designs, click through to the galleries,

and you will have the opportunity to see them close up.
Please feel free to direct design questions to me on the
GypsyOwl's Art Workshop Group Guest Book.
The next workshop will begin in July 2008.
How I use GIMP Designs
I also create designs for dozens of other products, business cards, logos, web graphics, and have galleries at
CafePress
and
Zazzle.

More Designs Made with GIMP for Product Designs
As you can see, small projects or very large (pendants or large framed prints), are possible using this medium. The Brush & Pallete Large Framed Print is a very popular design. I created it in tiny segments (much in the way that impressionists worked). I have to say that it is one of my favorites as well.

What Inspires Me?
Nature is one of the most inspirational factors in my artwork.

Walking around in my back yard with my camera!
Because
no matter what time of year I roam around out there
I will find the most beautiful wildflowers and butterfies to take pictures of.
I have been asked what inspires my artwork. The answer is simple. Nature is one of the most inspirational factors in my artwork. Any time of year I can find the most beautiful gifts of nature all around my yard and everywhere I go.
What inspires you?
I would love to hear all about the things that inspire you to nuture your creativity. Please share in my Guest Book. I am looking forward to hearing about what inspires you and how you make time to nurture your creativity.

Sunrise Melody
GypsyOwl's Yard at Sunrise
Get a cup of tea or coffee and sit with me on my front porch. We will watch the sunrise together.
I was outside before the sun came up one morning in early May. I was noticing how beautiful the trees looked standing tall alongside the path that leads to the inner circle of nature's untouched habitat.
I grabbed my camera and set the dial to 'motion and sound'. Then I stood as silently as I could watching the sun peek out from behind the trees. The birds were singing, small droplets of dew falling from the branches into tiny puddles, and the glow of a new day was astonishing.
I hope that you will watch (approx 3 minutes) and let yourself visualize that you are sitting with me on the porch watching Nature in all Her Glory. Let yourself breathe deeply and find the peace and comfort of sunrise and the melody that is sure to transform any stress into joy and peace.
