How do you find the right GPS System for you and/or your family?

First off, I'll be writing about GPS Navigation Systems for your car. We can definitely proclaim that all GPS Systems are NOT created equal. One would assume that each GPS device would essentially carry the same functions as the next device. "Turn left in Point 5 miles, turn right at the next exit, etc." Ohhh, nooooo! This is where the novice is sadly mistaken. It's ok...you didn't know. So, let me enlighten you! Let me give you some direction (pun intended).

Speaking of GPS Navigation reminds me of an episode of 'The Office.' Michael Scott, played by Steve Carell, is against change (specifically in the use of technology) within the company. Furthermore, he shuns from the use of technology within his car...the GPS Navigator. Michael takes direction from the GPS System and drives his car straight into a pond, thus proving his point that technology is BAD.

Now, any right minded individual would hopefully stop at the sight of a pond directly in his/her driving path. I did say right minded...you never know. But, anyways, GPS Navigation Technology has become so advanced that we do not have to worry about such things happening. Granted, some GPS systems may take you on someone's driveway thinking it was a road, but for the most part, these babies are pretty reliable. The great thing about the GPS companies (brands) is that they normally will provide updates through your computer so you will not drive into a newly formed ocean or mountain. :-)

Tell me about the different GPS Features already, dude!

Oh, yeah, back to the original subject. Maybe it's best if I list these for you:
(BTW, You see those lenses over there ===>
Don't worry about 'em. I've got the real goods! lol )

  • Male or Female Narrators (Navigators) and even celebrity voices

  • Some GPS Devices may say "Turn right" whereas others will say "Turn Right on Elm Street" Creepy!

  • Blue Tooth Capabilities for your cell phone

  • Ability to store and play MP3s through your radio...SWEET.

  • Small or Large Screens

  • Point of Interest (POI) locations.

  • Mobile (put it in your pocket) or Stationary

  • Ipod Connectivity

  • ..Yes..there are a lot more features to choose from

Magellan Maestro 3100 Mobile GPS Review

I have personally used the Magellan Maestro 3100 GPS Unit for over a year now. I have been very pleased with it's performance thus far. The 3100 has a 3.5 inch screen for easy viewing. The touch-screen map has very bright colors and can be toned down at night so you can see the road. I'm not going to go into all the technical aspects of this device, but the 3100 offers POI (Points of Interest), 3 hour battery life, multiple options for directions (fastest, shortest distance, most use of freeways, least use of freeways), and a female voice narrator. This unit can also be removed from your automobile and used elsewhere. Overall, the Maestro 3100 does a great job for the money. For basic navigation, this is your best bet. The only con is the battery life. Magellan claims that it will last for 3 hours, yet mine never does.
