Men have times when they don't get an erection. It isn't as sensitive, as hard or doesn't last long enough to have an orgasm. Erectile dysfunction is a symptom. What it is a symptom of, depends on an evaluation by someone who understands the problem. This lens is to help you understand some of the things it may mean, and what the approach to evaluating this problem should be. By reading this information and visiting some of the links you can be better informed and not just expect a sample of medication after a brief conversation.

Erectile Dysfunction is a symptom of an underlying problem.
Erectile dysfunction (ED) can be a physical, psychological or social problem. It may be the first indicator of diabetes, heart disease, or neurological disease. ED is not a simple problem and requires an extensive history, a thorough physical exam, laboratory work, and maybe, one of the big three medications so heavily advertised. Sometimes the necessary medication may be for hypertension or diabetes or a change of one of the medications the patient may be taking.
Peyronie's Disease as a cause of ED
Painful erections, a new bend in the middle, trouble with penetration
The problem is caused by plaque formation in the erectile tissues. Initially it just hurts when it is erect, but eventually it gets a kink. Usually just in one side but if you have certain kinds of arterial disease it can look like an hour glass with the pinch all the way around.
Twenty percent of men with Peyronie's also have a Dupytren's contracture that prevent them from extending one of their fingers. Usually the ring finger.
If you have this problem there is treatment but you need to see someone who has treated many men with this problem. Surgery is a major last option. The major complaint after surgery is that it is much shorter, among others.
Many men with Peyronie's have ED also. This is often an early sign of heart disease or diabetes or both. Take it seriously, see your physician for a physical. Don't go down to your local urgent care center and ask for a pill to give you a better erection.
