DIY Audio, Gainclone Amplifiers

DIY Audio stands for "do it yourself" audio, which means building anything audio like a amplifier that is made by someone who built it themselves instead of buying the equipment. There is satisfaction in building something yourself and to know that it is well built and not the cheap junk you can sometimes find in stores.

Gainclone sometimes called "chipamp" is an amplifier built by a DIY, (do it yourself) person who enjoys making their own audio equipment. The gainclone builder usually uses high-powered integrated circuits. The National Semiconductor Overture series is the one most used by these "do it yourselfers."

The gainclone amplifier is made from a simple design using a 56 watt chip. (National Semiconductor LM3875) It didn't need the giant power supply like other amplifiers and cost only $100.00 USD to build. It could then be sold for $3300.00 making a large profit.

Now the gainclone amplifier builders can use the National Semiconductor LM1875, LM3875, LM3886, LM4780, orLM3886. The LME series of the National Semiconductor also can be used to produce excellent sound. The LME series include LME49810, LME49811 and LME49830. These amplifiers produce high quality sound and rival the best you can buy.
