Gamma Phi Beta Facts and Trivia

- Gamma Phi Beta was founded on November 11, 1874 at Syracuse University.
- Founders are Helen Mary Dodge Ferguson, Frances "Fannie" Elizabeth Haven Moss, Eunice Adeline "Addie" Curtis and Mary "Minnie" Alice Bingham Willoughby.
- Gamma Phi Beta is the first organization to be associated with the word "sorority" in 1882. Before this, similar organizations were known a female fraternities.
- Gamma Phi Beta's public symbols are the Crescent Moon and Pink Carnations. Pearls, while not official symbols, are a frequently used theme.
- Gamma Phi Beta's colors are dark Brown, Mode, Hot Pink and Light Pink. Originally, dark and light blue were the official colors; colors were changed to reflect the existing decor of the first meeting room.
- Gamma Phi Beta and six other sororities founded the National Panhellenic Conference in 1902.
- Gamma Phi Beta is committed to it's Philanthropic Mission - primary benefactors are Camp Fire USA and Girl Guides of Canada.
