Who is Ganesh
Ganesh is a Hindu god. He has an elephant head and a human body with 4 arms. He is the son of Shiva and Parvati. Shiva went off on a long trip, and while he was gone Parvati gave birth to a beautiful son, Ganesh. While Shiva returned, a young boy around 10 was out side of the house. Shiva had never seen this boy before so he cut off his head. Parvati ran outside yelling at Shiva. Shiva then gave the boy a head of a strange animal he saw on his way home, an elephant. This is one story I have read in a Hindu god book.
More info about Ganesh and his family
He is the Lord of Begginings and Lord of Obstacles. The family includes his brother Skanda, who is also called Karttikeya, Murugan, and other names. Regional differences dictate the order of their births. In northern India, Skanda is generally said to be the elder, while in the south, Ganesha is considered the first born. Skanda was an important martial deity from about 500 BCE to about 600 CE, when worship of him declined significantly in northern India. As Skanda fell, Ganesha rose. Several stories tell of sibling rivalry between the brothers and may reflect sectarian tensions.
FYI!!!
This is only one Hindu god that I now alot about, It may not be the most commonly known.
