I thought it might be interesting to track the progress of a new lens. In this case, SpeedPPC.

Created a few hours ago, before server midnight on 14th July. Lensrank: 201,866.

15th July: Various updates and new modules added, plus I added it to all my other lensrolls. Result: lensrank of 16984.

16th: Despite getting 2 votes with resulting score of 2 yesterday, lensrank of 5899. Wow. Must be 'glory by association' because there is not much content there. Yet.

17th: Lensrank 4615. Today I posted to the guestbook and added to a previous post.

18th: 2605.

19th: 1792. Today I updated a module.

20th: 1121. It's neat seeing this lens climbing the lensrank ladder, with such little work. I read somewhere that there is a rolling average taken into account as one of the factors in the lensrank algorithm so I assume now that by creating a new module or tweaking an existing module most days, I am here seeing the benefits of that constant updating. My other lenses are all generally going up too, so I guess there is a 'glory by association' factor at work here.

21st: 545, after adding content to one of the modules yesterday.

23rd: 436, after doing nothing to the lens for 2 days. Hmmm.

30th: Since 436, it's been 488, then 364, then 451, 342, 380, 302 and today 441. Most of that, I am guessing, is due to inbound traffic but I did make a few updates to the lens in that time.

Well, a few of them anyway...

Once I started to pay serious daily attention to my Squidoo lenses, the lensrank for each of my 6 lenses went up, Up, UP.

At first.

Then came the day that 5 of them went DOWN. Only one went up that day.

Gloom?

Sure, I was a bit downhearted about it, but what I decided to do was persist with my daily basics (details of what I am doing are at SquidooTactics) and lo and behold, next day absolutely every one of them went up again.

Up from 1574 to 909.
Up from 12004 to 9022.
Up from 3017 to 1866.
Up from 4245 to 2971.
Up from 1563 to 993.
Up from 6481 to 4393.

So keep on going guys. Many setbacks are temporary, unless we stop doing the basics. Keep on developing the value and content of your lens, as well as its connectedness to the rest of the Squidoo community.

And watch your lensrank rise.
