Gas Mileage Improvement

1) Get organized - Plan ahead before you jump into the car. First, ask yourself if you can share a ride? Car pool? Take a bus or other means to arrive at your destination? Order online? Then if and only if you must drive somewhere, select the vehicle that consumes the least amount of fuel.

2) Manage your timing better - Instead of driving during peak hours in traffic and congestion and traveling on vacations during high tourist seasons, map out your timing better. Leave earlier or later to avoid traffic jams and wasting fuel with stop-and-go traffic patterns. And schedule your vacation at a different time period when there is less traffic, too.

3) Be a mature, responsible driver and have a poker face - In other words, leave your emotions at home. Drive with common sense, following the rules, leaving rage and other similar emotions out of the vehicle. Speeding is not only against the law, it wastes gas and takes lives. Ditto with drunk driving. Don't even take one drink and drive. The two do not mix.

4) Don't keep your car running - there is no longer a need to have cars idle more than 30 seconds to warm up. Likewise at fast food pickups, bank stops, etc. shut off your vehicle, get out and complete the transactions. Then get back in and drive away.
