Canadian Geocaching

An introductory article from Canadian Geographic.

The March 2005 issue of Canadian Geographic has a rather good introductory article on GeoCaching - titled "Geocaching in the Eastern Townships". The article deals with a newbies pursuit of the ubiquitous tupperware container. A pretty good read - Canadian Geographic also has an online site where a brief excerpt is posted, along with some Geocaching links.

Parks Canada GeoCaching Policy

Parks Canada is currently soliciting comments on a draft policy to manage geocaching activities in protected heritage areas administered by Parks Canada, including national parks, national historic sites, and national marine conservation areas. Geocaching is an outdoor activity that involves establishing a "cache" in a public location for participants to find using Global Positioning System (GPS) coordinates. Forms of the activity include physical caches (a container of items such as candles, toys, and a logbook), or virtual caches (i.e. GPS coordinates lead to a point of interest such as a view or historical plaque). GPS coordinates of cache locations are posted on websites such as www.geocaching.com for participants to find. The activity is growing in popularity worldwide and is currently occurring across Canada.
