Hair Conditioner

Tips on when & how to use

Hair conditioner is product that is supposed to improve the texture and appearance of human hair. Hair conditioners, unlike shampoos, bind to the hair and don't completely wash out in order to give the hair the desired appearance. Most people use this product because your hair is one thing you don't want squeaky clean. The real function of a good hair conditioner is to treat the hair after shampooing and help tame it for the next grooming process; combing, drying, curling, straightening etc.

Conditioners, similar to shampoos, comes in various forms. Again you can find products specific to the result you are looking for. Although the original purpose of hair conditioners was to just help detangle clean hair, you can now get ones that will .... Read More

Hair Shampoo - Information and Tips

All about shampoos and some real tips you can use now.

Shampoo is a probably the most common hair care product used to clean hair. It basically removes oils, dirt, products and other pollutants from the exterior of the hair and scalp. If not formulated correctly, shampoo can strip your hair and scalp of too much of the natural oils. This is another reason it is not recommended you use regular soap for cleaning your hair as soap is made to bond with and remove oils.

Shampoos, especially those, made for daily use are formulated so that they are mild on the hair and do not leave it too dry. Shampoo to treat dandruff, which is considered a medical condition, is regulated just like other over the counter drugs. Baby shampoos are made to mirror the pH of the human eye so they do not irritate the eye during bathing. You can also get the double formula shampoo and conditioner all in one which is supposed to .... Read more & get shampoo tips

Deep Conditioner

Do you really need it?

Daily conditioners are good for hair maintenance and for detangling. Deep Conditioners are vital for problem hair. They moisture and strengthen and make hair more manageable. The worse shape your hair is in and the more damage you have, the more often you should use this product. For most people with "normal" hair deep conditioning a couple of times a month should be sufficient. But if you happen to have unruly and dry hair like I do, use it at least once a week. Leave it in for 15-20 minutes with a plastic cap on top so the heat can penetrate. For really curly, permed, straightened or relaxed hair or if you blow dry your hair every day, ... Read More

Natural Haircare Products

Are they for you?

Natural Hair Products have been used for many, many years and by ancient societies. Indians still use herbs like neem, shikakai, henna, bael, brahmi, aloe combined with things like sandalwood, jasmine, turmeric, and rose formulate shampoos and other hair products. Natural hair products are now starting to become more popular as people realize that anytime you use a product on your body some of it will get absorbed. They are particularly popular with pregnant women who do not want to pass on the chemicals to the unborn fetus.

Natural hair products are available more easily now but are more expensive therefore you may want to try to make them at home from scratch. There are many recipes to be found online just by searching for natural hair product recipes. This is a whole new market out there and as I learn more I will post it on my site.

Also, if you are one that does not like too much fuss and are not attached to using a whole array of styling products, natural products are definitely for you. Natural care does not include the use of tools like straighteners or curling irons. Actually if you were to do without these heat appliances you would not need many of the styling products being marketed today. Coloring your hair, which is getting more and more popular, is also not recommended although you can find many natural coloring agents like henna.

It has been determined that, particularly damaged and colored hair greatly benefits when you fully transition to natural hair care regiment. But if you are not totally sold on natural products or if you want to ease into it try these tips first.

Tips
-- Use coconut oil or jojoba oil as a hair conditioner. Be sure to rinse completely and with cool water.
-- To tame a frizzy mane or to reduce static, put a couple of drops of olive oil in your hand and pull it through from roots to ends.
-- Any of the above oils can also be used as a deep conditioner. Put it on all your hair and scalp, cover with a plastic shower cap (for heat) and wrap with a towel. Let it penetrate for 20-30 mins rinse well.

Hair Straightening

Most women with curly or wavy hair have at some point coveted straight hair. If you are one of them and wish to try this, you should know that there are several great options these days and none of them involves a clothes iron. New methods, using state of the art technology, are safer and less harmful to your hair. You can opt for the chemical process to permanently straighten your hair and achieve a smooth, shiny, straight mane for anywhere from six to nine months. Or you can temporarily sport a straight hairstyle for special occasions. You may want to try this before you commit to a permanent change.

If you have the time and patience you can just use a good hair dryer and styling brush to blow dry your hair straight or you can try a straightening irons. There are several several different types of straighteners available, from the older, most commonly used chrome-plated metal irons to gold-plated ones and of course the newest technology, ceramic and tourmaline. If you are short on cash try the regular metal or the gold-plated ones; gold is easier on your hair. If you can afford to splurge, purchase a ceramic/tourmaline straightening iron and your hair will thank you. The ceramic heats up more evenly and is gentler to your hair by helping preserve the natural moisture. It also results in shinier, smoother, healthier looking hair as it tends to glide through better. Ceramic is known to eliminate frizz and minimize static.

Good review on hair care products. You can make your products even better by putting a few drops of an essential oil into your shampoo or conditioner.
