Sometimes acne can be successfully treated with some changes in habits and a good over-the-counter anti-acne gel or kit. If acne is severe enough, you may need the help of your doctor or dermatologist. Before you make your doctor appointment, try these suggestions (remember that any acne treatment is going to take four to six weeks before you see changes):

Gently cleanse the affected areas twice a day with a soap made especially for acne.

If the acne is on your face, be sure to use make-up and moisturizers that are non-comedogenic.

Use an over-the-counter acne gel or cream or a good anti-acne kit to treat your pimples. You must be consistent with cleansing and treatment.

If you are an adolescent, or a woman nearing perimenopause, your acne may be the result of hormonal swings. Check with your doctor.

Where clothing that is lose and comfortable and that breathes.
If you exercise and perspire to excess, shower as soon as possible and put on clean, dry clothing.

If the acne is on your body, change your laundry detergent to a mild one with no fragrances or additives.
If you suspect your acne breakouts are stress related, find ways to reduce stress and make relaxation a part of your daily life.

Eat a healthy diet and drink plenty of water. This is important for your body to function optimally.

If your acne is severe and you are not able to treat it yourself, see your doctor, he or she may prescribe medications that can help or may use other techniques to get rid of acne.

Don't let acne become a regular part of your life. It can be effectively treated, and with proper acne treatment comes prevention. You can get rid of acne by using the steps in this article, or you can ask for help from your doctor. Good luck!
