Get Smart to be a major motion picture in 2008

A remake of the popular TV comedy show from the 60's is in production. Peter Segal is directing. Steve Carell playing Agent Maxwell Smart(Agent 86) and Anne Hathaway playing the always more competent Agent 99. The Rock will be playing a new character Agent 23 and Alan Arkin is filling the role of the Chief. Siegfried will be played by one of my favorite Brit actors Terence Stamp. You may remember him as Ramsley in The Haunted Mansion(2003), Chancellor Valorum in The Phantom Menace or in The Limey (1999) also in many of the Superman movies.

Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway will be starring as Max and Agent 99. Alan Arkin will be playing as the Chief. Terrance Stamp as Siegfried. And Bill Murray as Agent 13.
The film is shooting in Montreal, Los Angelas and Washington, DC. Rumors have it that Barbara Feldon may be doing a cameo.

As a dedicated spy nut, I was ecstatic when I heard that Get Smart was being released on DVD at last. Even with the anticipation, the set still managed to exceed my expectations. The box is set up to look like the elevator Max disappears into during the title credits. In addition to sharp, bright and clean episode quality, each season is loaded with extras, including commentary from both Mel Brooks and Buck Henry, numerous documentaries, a touching clip from Don Adams' memorial service and commentary from Barbara Feldon before EACH EPISODE. The set also includes the black and white pilot episode which I had never seen before. In short, this sucker is loaded. Nick at Nite hasn't shown Get Smart for years now, so those of you going through advanced cases of Max and 99 withdrawl can have your Get Smart cravings satisfied forever with this great set. Here's hoping the set will soon be more widely available so Amazon can offer it at its usual rock-bottom price.

Get Smart the TV show

Get Smart the TV Show was a big hit in the 1960's

Get Smart was famous for the many fantastic(for the time) gadgets. Phones were everywhere disguised as Maxs shoe, a pocket watch, potted plant, wallet, fire hydrant, ice cream cone even a fingernail.
the Cone of Silence was a device that allowed 2 agents to communicate without been overheard by hidden microphones it usually resulted in getting in the way of normal conversation. guns were also high tech being disguised or hidden in common objects such as crutches, flashlight, paintbrush, violin or even Maxwells finger. "Sorry Chief, I didn't know my finger was loaded" was a frequent line.

Get Smart (1965 - 1970 Television Series)

This isn't really a soundtrack album. It's a comedy album featuring segments from the Get Smart TV show, with new framing sequences featuring Don Adams. The idea is that Maxwell Smart is in a tight spot, and he is reminiscing about past situations that might help him out. The framing sequences were written by Buck Henry. Some of the scenes from the TV show don't work as well without the visuals, but for the most part they are still pretty funny. There are three bonus tracks on the CD. Both sides of a rare single released by Barbara Feldon are here. "99" and "Max" are both silly novelty songs, and Miss Feldon sings off key (the songs are also in the opposite order that they appear on the track listing). The final bonus track is the "Get Smart" theme music. Fans of Get Smart should enjoy this CD.

Amazon Price: $21.98 (as of 10/12/2008)

Get Smart Again

This should be the standard for which all made for TV reunion movies should follow! "Get Smart, Again" aired on ABC in the early 90's to very high ratings with good reason, It's good! Would you believe, Great! Yes, Great!
CONTROL is back in business to fight the evil forces of KAOS!
The old gang is back Agent 86 (Don Adams), Agent 99 (Barbara Feldon), Hymie (Dick Gautier) to stop the sinister Sigfried (Bernie Kopell) Besides most of the original cast returning many of the series original creative team has returned. Leonard B. Stern, Mark Curtiss & Rod Ash wrote the script and Gary Nelson directed. The movie preserves all of the flavor of the comedy of the Get Smart series yet makes it contempoary enough for today's audiences something the makers of the dreadful 1980 feature film "The Nude Bomb" also starring Don Adams did not do!
The reason my rating is not 5 stars is because of the DVD itself!
The picture quality is very poor. The color is washed out, there is no sharpness or brightness every scene looks as if it were filmed through gauze! The DVD package says "Digitally Mastered" but mastered from what, a VHS tape? Don't let the poor quality of the DVD discourage you. The excellent quality of the movie, the script and all the performances are worth the price! A must have for all "Get Smart" fans! Until we get the complete orginal series on DVD or even a better print of "Get Smart, Again" this will have to do!
