Pregnant Over 40 Notions On Diet
A well-balanced diet is critical when planning for a pregnancy, because by the time you find out you are expecting, weeks will have gone by and your child will already have been developing important systems and organs within its body (nervous system, circulatory system, etc).
Healthy eating does not have to be boring. You can still choose to eat at your favourite restaurants as long as you opt for a wide variety of foods that offer vitamins, protein, whole grains, fibre, iron, and calcium.
Instead of reaching for a deep fried appetizer, choose something like a vegetable-packed salad or soup. Likewise, when the dessert tray rolls around, skip the chocolate bliss cake and select fresh strawberries with cream. You'll get a dose of vitamin C and fibre instead of just empty calories.

Getting Pregnant Over 40? Lets talk about foods
Why Take Vitamins and Iron
Iron is an important mineral for expecting mothers and developing fetuses. You do not have to eat tons of red meat to get the recommended iron in your diet. While lean red meat is the best source of iron, you can also eat beans and peas, green, leafy vegetables, and dried fruits like raisins and apricots. Most women have heard of the importance of folic acid in their diets. Folic acid prevents some birth defects like spina bifida and is essential in the development of a baby's spinal cord, brain, and skull. Unfortunately, folic acid is needed right from the moment of conception, so it is critical to have the right amount of this nutrient in your body before you get pregnant.
Eat lots of spinach, asparagus, fortified breads, and drink plenty of orange juice. All of these foods contain folic acid. Calcium is necessary for developing bones, so drinking milk and eating dairy products like cheese, yoghurt, and ice cream are important as well. Since pregnant women should get about 1200 mg daily of calcium, there are lots of fortified foods on the market that can make such an undertaking easy even if you are lactose intolerant. Orange juice fortified with calcium and certain cereals are great offerings to ensure that you are getting enough of this important mineral..
Why Drink Water During Pregnancy
Drinking plenty of water is good for everyone, but it is especially important for mothers to be. Water helps flush out impurities and toxins from the body and in expectant mothers, drinking plenty of water enables the body to cleanse the fluid within the placenta. Thus, the baby is always receiving its nourishment from clean water. While most doctors recommend drinking eight glasses of water daily, once pregnant, women are told to drink even more. So, if you aren't a water drinker now, start downing that H20. It will help keep your body healthy.
If you are the type who tends to skip breakfast or grabs greasy hamburgers for lunch on the run, consider changing your meal lifestyle. Once pregnant, you will need to ensure that your developing baby gets all of the critical nutrition he or she needs to be healthy.
So, start now and give your baby a great shot at good health. If the foods you eat seem to have little nutritional value, they probably aren't the things you want to put into your body. Look for ways to change your eating habits. You don't have to go cold turkey all at once and live on salads for the rest of your life. Just look for better alternatives to the fast food and junk and gradually make changes.
