Stop Looking for Work. Gigwalk Finds you.

Searching for jobs the traditional way is frustrating and exhausting. Hours are spent scouring the internet for decent jobs, dealing with ten different forms, and scam warning messages. Instead of searching for work, they send mobile notifications directly to your iPhone alerting you of nearby Gigs. By sending notifications (even when you are not in the Gigwalk app) of nearby Gigs we help Gigwalkers earn $60 to $100 a day. At Gigwalk, you don't have to scour or search anymore. With the latest updates to the Gigwalk iPhone app, it is even simpler for work to find YOU. The new push notifications will alert you when new Gigs pop up in your neighborhood. These notifications (no text messaging charges) get pushed to your phone even when you're not in the Gigwalk App, so you won't ever miss out on important Gigs.

Innovation is the answer

It used to be that the help wanted signs were how people found work. As newspapers took over, along came the classifieds. Then Monster.com, HotJobs and Craigslist dominated the search for employment. We are now in need of a new medium that reflects our mobile world and that facilitates how we find and do work. We think Gigwalk is part of the innovative solutions that we'll need to turn the corner on unemployment.

Gigwalking is not your typical job

Unlike most typical jobs, Gigwalkers have the freedom to choose which Gigs to do and when they want to do them. Many productive Gigwalkers integrate Gigs into their daily lives; for example, they might do a few Gigs on their way to lunch or in between errands. Gigwalkers earn Streetcred for high quality work. This builds their reputation and grants them access to higher paying Gigs. Some earn as much as $1,000 a month Gigwalking. Some will want to lump Gigwalk with other "crowdsourced" ventures. Crowds are nameless, faceless groups of people whose paths are unlikely to cross. In contrast, Gigwalkers share their skills, passions, and personalities, helping each other grow and flourish.

What is the Gigwalk user experience?

In order to understand the social media ramifications of Gigwalk, I became a Gigwalker 2 weeks ago and have completed 25 gigs so far earning me a whopping $36 (with some $50 still pending). Gigwalk reminds me of my childhood when I searched for bottles and returned them for the deposit so I could get the 25 cents to buy a candy bar or pop. While I'm not going to get rich using Gigwalk, I have earned enough to take the family out to dinner (once).

So far, the only Gigs I have done are to verify and take pictures of local businesses for Bing Maps. Using the Gigwalk map, I select a gig and start working. Then I have to answer a couple of questions and take some photos of the business. The hardest part is that the Bing Map gigs require you to upload a panorama photo of the interior of the business using the Photosynth application. And for about 5 minutes of work, I will get $5 (via Paypal) when my gig is approved (within 7 days). For business that are closed, Gigwalk only pays $2 but the work involved to verify a closed business takes just a minute or two. As far as the experience of completing the gigs, everything has gone smoothly with the exception of one gig where the owner did not want me to take any pictures and threatened to call the police (so I quickly retreated). I usually tell the manager or person working the front counter that I am taking pictures for Bing Maps.

Overall, the Gigwalk iPhone app is solid, well-designed and easy-to-use. An Android version of the app is in the works according to the website, but no timeframe has been offered.

Searching Made Easy

Scanning through 100,000 Gigs is made easy with our new search filters. When you are looking for Gigs, you can filter by pay and by type. This'll help you plan your day and be as efficient as possible when you are Gigwalking.

The app, which launched in May for the iPhone, has racked up a more than 128,000 "gigs" and now counts Microsoft Bing as a customer. Bing will use Gigwalkers to take panaromic 3-D photosynth pictures of businesses and restaurants for Bing Map results. The company is commissioning thousands of gigs across the country as it looks to implement the new feature, which will bring a kind of Google Streetview to the insides of restaurants and stores. It's a good example of what Gigwalk can do for companies, which are often in need of mobile workers who can take pictures of places or objects, gather business information or check on retail promotions. TomTom and MenuPages are among some of the other corporate clients who have also signed on.

The service is also proving popular with iPhone users. GigWalk said it's signed up more than 50,000 workers, who make an average of $5 per gig. That's in just eight cities where Gigwalk has launched. Gigwalkers have collectively uploaded 903,571 photos and have traveled the equivalent of five trips to the moon and back.

Changing Payouts

We've also heard loud and clear on Gigwalk Talk that you want to be able to receive your money in larger chunks and minimize PayPal fees. Here's how you can set your Min Payout:

1. In the App, click on your name to open up your profile.
2. Click on Settings in the bottom right-hand corner.
3. Select Min Payout and adjust the wheel to the desired amount.

Earn it, now spend it

The new notifications will also ping you when you've been paid. When you receive this message, indulge in your favorite treat without guilt.

Gigwalk uses iPhone owners' GPS locations and home addresses to filter and distribute appropriate gigs for them. Once a user accepts a gig, there's a limited time to finish it, usually a couple of days. After a completed task is approved, the user gets paid through PayPal.

Don't work with these scammers. They owe me $250 for product photos and have completely cut off all interactions with me. They will not pay you and you should NOT work for them.

COUNTRYLUTHIER predicts:

This will spread. Very interesting concept for the mobile empowered workforce. THanks for sharing smartphone enabled one!

Is it available in Romania? What is the official documentation link?
