How to make a simple logo using Gimp

A simple tutorial to explain my way to make a logo.

First part / prima parte


  1. Create una nuova immagine / Make a new Immage


  2. Selezionate lo strumento testo / Select the text tool


  3. Selezionate il font ( io ho usato Gargoyle ) / Select the font ( I have used gargoyle one )


  4. Scrivete un testo, il colore per ora non è importante ( nero è meglio ) / Write some text, the colour isn't important for now ( black is a good choice )


  5. Create un Nuovo Livello, nominatelo "Sfumatura" / Create a new level, call it "Gradient"

  6. Selezionate lo strumento "bacchetta magica" / Select the magic hand tool


  7. Selezionate il livello testo nella finestra dei livelli / Select the Text level on the Level window


  8. Tenendo premuto "shift" selezionate le parti vuote all'interno del testo / Holding down "shift" select the inside empty text part


  9. Selezionate il livello "Sfumatura" / Select the "gradient" level


  10. Selezionate lo strumento "sfumatura" / Select the blend tool ( gradient )


  11. Scegliete i colori / Choose the color ( #0d69bf / #615f5f )


  12. Create la sfumatura iniziando dall'alto verso il basso // Make the gradient start from the top to the bottom


  13. Usate il filtro Sfocatura, sfocatura gaussiana / use the Blur Filter, Gaussian Blur


  14. Questi sono i valori da usare / This are the value to use


  15. Questo è il risultato fino ad ora... continuiamo / this is the result for now... continue


  16. Create un nuovo livello / Create a new level


  17. Create una selezione che copra parzialmente il testo sul nuovo livello / Make a selection to cover parzially the text on this new level


  18. Riempite di bianco la selezione attiva / Fill with white the active selection


  19. Deselezionate - ctrl+shift+a / Deselect - ctrl+shift+a



Second and last part / seconda e ultima parte


  1. Usate il filtro Sfocatura Effetto Movimento / Use the filter blur motion blur


  2. Usate le impostazioni dell'immagine / Use the value that you can see in the image


  3. Ripete la sfocatura effetto movimento una seconda volta ma con questi nuovi valori / Repeat the Motion blur effect but with this new value


  4. Se è necessario muovete il livello per centrarlo col testo ( strumento muovi - M )/ If is necessary move the level to center the text ( Move tool - M )


  5. selezionate la finestra dei livelli e impostate il metodo su sovrapponi / Select the level window and set the mode on overlay


  6. ripetete i punti 16,17,18 e 19 di questo tutorial ( pagina 1 ) ma questa volta il colore di riempimento dev'essere nero / repeat the 16,17,18 and 19 point of this toturial ( page 1 ).. but this time the fill color must be black


  7. sempre col livello nero selezionato andate su filtro distorsione onda / always with the black level selected go to the filter distorts than waves


  8. Usate questi valori / use this value


  9. Settate il modo di fusione del levello su sovrapponi / Set the level fusion mode on overlay


  10. Usate il filtro sfocatura nello stesso modo dei punti 13 e 14 di questo tutorial ( pagina 1 ) / use the blur filter in the same way of 13th and 14th point of this tutorial ( page 1 )


  11. Selezionate il livello background e poi andate su colori e infine su inverti / Select the background level than go to the menù color... invert

  12. Fate lo stesso per il livello testo / do the same for the text level


  13. Questo è il risultato finale / This is the final result

    A very useful site. Don't bother with a reply to those who are like Michelle in their mindless and negative commentary. Thanks for your useful post on making a logo in GIMP. I applaud your efforts to share with the world.

    Michelle, first relax and try to explain what's wrong.
    This tutorial is write in 2 languages:
    Italian
    English
    If you don't understands Italian.... well read the English part so simple.
    And before You ask to me... I have decide to write in both languages cause this lens is shared with people that comes from Italy and many more Nation other than America.
    Probabily I don't speak and write a very good English... but I am an Italian who try and want to share his ( my ) knowledge with other peoples.
    This is your first "attack" to me and for this reason I don't care about the tone of your comment, but please... next time before you attack someone be so gently to explain your point of view in a good and educate way.

    this dont help no one that speaks and reads english....that really stupid and if ur in America u need to write and speak English....get a clue!
