There and Back Again

Glenys O'Connell started her writing career with a weekly newspaper in Lancashire, England. It progressed from there to working for a large regional daily in Canada, and working freelance for magazines and publications in the US, Canada, Ireland and the UK. Although she has written in many different areas: hypnotherapy scripts (she's a qualified counsellor), a travel book, and romantic suspense (under her own name and the pen name Lydia Grace). She fears she will be most known for such children's books as The Pebble People Save The Day and The Giant Turnip.

Glenys has had two stage plays produced, winning an award with one. To pay for her writing habit, she writes web content, articles, non-fiction books, as well as ghostwriting autobiographies and stories for clients around the world. She teaches creative writing and journalism for adult students and online; and has worked with disadvantaged children in literacy programs. She recently moved from people watching in the suburbs of Ireland to the wilds of rural Ontario, Canada, where she watches bears, raccoons and muskrats from her back porch.

Winters & Somers

By Glenys O'Connell - A.K.A. Lydia Grace

PI Dara Somers makes a good living testing the 'temptability quotient' of men for their insecure lovers but when NY homicide cop and author of red hot romances, Jonathon Winters, makes her take him on as a partner in her Dublin agency, he gets the wrong message from her raunchy style... especially when he wants her for himself. Somers isn't the type to let a man push her around. The incorrigible Grannie Somers raised her to be her own woman. But when she discovers that even Grannie drools over Winters, she can't help but wonder what it would be like to indulge in one of the fantasies that have millions of women reading his romantic books. When Somers finally gets her first real case -- to capture the notorious jewel thief dubbed The Diamond Darling -- she has to survive the help of her weird relatives, the landlady from hell, two stoned friends, a stray dog and Winters himself.

Every Writer Needs a Hobby

"The kiss of the sun for pardon, the song of the birds for mirth; I am nearer to God in my garden than anyplace else on earth."

Glenys has many hobbies but little time - gardening is probably the one which she has devoted the most time and energy. Everywhere she has lived - and she has moved around a lot - she's had a garden of sorts.

Sometimes it was just a few containers on a city apartment balcony, another time she had several acres in the country. The current garden is an eclectic mix of plants from friends' gardens, 'eccentric' plants that caught her eye in the gardening centre, some wildflowers that were too pretty to pull from the beds, all tucked into a village lot.

No matter where she's been she has always grown vegetables, even if it's just a pot of herbs on the window sill. This year she enjoyed heirloom tomatoes, spindly rhubarb, eggplant, butternut squash, green peppers, green beans, and potatoes.

What attracts her to gardening? It's the feel of soil on her hands, the sun's warmth on her back, and the sense of connectedness that you get working in a garden.

Good to see your novels in print. Congratulations. I read the e-mail version of Judgement by Fire. It made me laugh and the heroine is an incredibly attractive and interesting character. Glenys captures the charm and mystery of rural Ontario to a tee.
