Glycerin Soap : Golden Translucent Soaps

A good wash basin soap that doesn't melt into a sludge after a short while. Glycerin Soaps instead become transparent after some time creating a golden glow in sunlight. When I was a kid that seemed kind of magical and luxurious to me. Pears Soap bars have been mellowed and aged for three months until reaching a pure transparency.

This method of soap-making exists since 1789, I don't know why they have gone out of fashion.

Wright's Coal Tar Soap

Wright's Coal Tar Soap is no longer made from Coal Tar residues but now contains Tree Oil. It still has a pungent antiseptic smell which makes it seem healthy. As a child I was fascinated by the fact that you could clean yourself with "dirty" coal.

How to Make Soap

I just give an overview here, just be aware that there safety issues in particular when handling the Lye you need to wear gloves and goggles.

Wear gloves and goggles.
Remember, lye is dangerous and can cause severe burns.

Water, Lye, Lard, Coconut Oil, Olive Oil, Fragrance and optionally coloring.
