I struggle when it comes to being entertained in a book and this is one book that i absolutely could not put down. I like Alice have been through many struggles with drug's and it really hit home when i read this. at point's in this book i laughed, I cried, and I related an awful bit. I would definitely suggest this book to any teen that has or is considering doing drugs. it will definitely make you think twice. As far as parent's wanting to ban this book i don't see why. this book/diary is a way to scare kids astray from Drugs. I am now 17 and you bet when I have kid's they will be reading this book.

I did enjoy this book. But come awn should you be letting your children read this at age 12 when they are the most prone to try things. The more you say no you can't the more they will go and do it anyways. Alice is advertising how great it is. Get real

Thanks for this lens. I am inspired to read the book now. I think I will share it with my teen aged nieces. 5*s

I'm thirteen years old and I think this book was amazing, yeah it has some drug use and adult content but really today thats stuff we as teenagers hear about or experince all the time. The fact that people want to take this book away from people it could truly help is incredible to think about.

I really enjoyed reading this book. Whether it is based on a true story or not, this book really helped me keep my eyes open. I am a 15 year old sophomore, and there are a lot of drug users in my grade, and even in the grade below me. This book will absolutely keep as far away from the drugs as possible. Go Ask Alice should NOT be banned anywhere in the US because it will get teens to stay away from the drugs.

Being a teenager in the middle of highschool, i'm surrounded by drugs and promiscous sex. this book really showed what goes on and i belive that teen and young adults most certainly read this book. It shows what can happen to your life if you go down the wrong path.

I don't understand why someone would want to bann this book. Parents, wouldn't you rather have your kids read this book a go "Oh, this is what could happen if I do drugs and junk. I think I'll pass the next time a joint gets passed around at a party"? I would. And if you are worried about their delicate little minds, I am telling you now: if they don't already know, they will--wether you like it or not. So let them learn a little from books instead of from first hand experiance.

i extremly loved this book it taught me alot and it has so much to learn sometimes adults dont remember what it was like to be an adolecence and i really think most parents should read this book made me think alot about my choices and what i was gunna do in the future and it really made me sad that "alice" couldnt find anyone to talk to about her problems and i really think it wood open most teens eyes to what is happening and can make better and wiser choices for the future

Kayla I agree with you I loved this book because it showed the struggles of teenage life. I grew up in the slums and this here happens every day to those that are not as fortunate... Its sad that this book is not able to be in the library because it teaches true lessons of life.

I am a sophmore now, and just finished reading this book, and I loved it! I don't think that it should be banned because it has really shown me the reality of that kind of life, and taught me that its not that cool. I do think, though, that for most kids my age, they've already started going down that path that alice was on. So, it would be more benefitial to kids under the age of 14. Then they would not even want to experiment with drugs or alchohal.

i had to do this book as a school project and me and two of my friends first thought that this was a nice book. once we had gotten farther in the book we found out what was really going on and we cuoldn't stop reading. it has been less that a year and i have read it to many times to count. it is one of those books that you can read it over and over agian and every time something happens that you don't remember.

I just finished reading the novel, "Go Ask Alice." I had to read it for a CP English class I am taking. I am a freshman. We had to pick a book that had been banned from libraries, and write a ten entry journal on the characters and what we thought about it. I simply love this book. It had me in tears because I know people who have been under the influence of drugs. And many of my friends smoke weed. This story really got to me. This is something I could read over, and over again if I wanted to. My teacher warned me that it was extremley graphic, but I loved the book anyway. If you have any questions feel free to email me. No spam, please.

    Thank you,

This book is a work of propaganda. I don't care if kids read it, so long as they're taught that its propaganda. Rarely do actual teenage drug using experiences really look anything like this; I used drugs as a teen, knew many other teens who did as well, and I went on to study substance abuse counseling as an adult. The book makes pot and lsd seem like the worst culprits, and only mentions harder drugs like heroin as a side note. I've never heard of anyone falling into a self-destructive addiction to pot or lsd. Nor is it likely that 'dopers' will slip you a hit to 'convert' you, then come after you if you try to go 'straight'.

Kids should be prepared for the drug world with truths, facts, support and guidance, not propaganda, half-truths, or scare tactics. The reason is simple - the moment a kid discovers the lie, everything else you taught them on the subject is now suspect in their eyes. Lying to kids is never a good idea. Lying in general is not a good educational tool.

When I read Go Ask Alice I was a sophmore in High School and already highly involved in the "party scene". I think pre teens would benefit from this book more than anyone being that they are just starting high school and it would provide more cons to drinking and drugs than pros. Since they havent really experienced "teen party life" they are less likely to get involved after reading the book because of the severity of "Alices" addictions. I believe at the time I read the book, it was too late for me to even realize what drugs and alcohol did to a person and it was more like "wow im doing this stuff too how cool" than "i could really mess up my life i need to stop". My mindstate at the age of 16 was more on the "lets party" side than anything and I dont think this book would have changed my thinking at that crucial time in my life whereas if I read it before High school I might have had different insight on the book and the overall lesson.

I believe that go ask alice isnt exactly the life of a real teenage girl getting into drug use but that of many teenagers who once in drugs are faced with things that wouldnt be there and it includes facts about what happens on drugs in many different areas but the way beatrice sparks shows this is in the liefe of one girl making the reality of it even scarier but at the same time making it bearable. The only part i dont like is that the girl shows she is strong makes it through rehab and in the end shes dead... whats up with that?

i had to read this book for eglish class, and it was awsome. it was one of the best books i've ever read. this book put everything in perspective for me and kept me from going down that path. i guess you can say it scarred me straight considering i was experimentting with marijuana and alcohol a lot.. i like to think of this book as self help guide that every really needs to read at some point...

i thought that this was an amazing book, i chose to read for a school assignment and i thought that it was truly a wonderful book. i am not surprised to see some people flipping out about thier children reading it, but i think it is important that teenagers (not under 10) read this book to understand the meaning of what drugs can do to your life. i absolutly loved reading it!

I've searched every free online library I can think of and cannot find it so I am assuming although it was written anonymous, someone still holds the copyright. I also wish that anyone were able to read this diary of the young girl who wrote about the very real problems of teens. Too many of us, after reaching adulthood, will not acknowledge they even have troubles worth mentioning. I believe sharing this book with not only teens but more especially with parents of preteens would save at least some of the heartache suffered within the families of today. The part I remember the most is that she had no one to discuss her troubles with. Hearing with understanding is half the battle.
  • Dimensionality Apr 13, 2008 @ 7:52 pm | delete
I think that some preteens would benefit from this diary. More importantly, I believe that parents of those preteens would benefit. As adults, sometimes we find it hard to understand that an 11 or 12 year old can have any problems worth mentioning in this woprld and often block them out as though not valid. Sad, isn't it? Listening could be half the battle.

I read this book when I was a freshman... It really did change my life. I had a new insight into the mind of people who have tried drugs and are addicted. This really helped me deal with a very close friend who was starting to get into drugs. I really wish my friend should have read this before he tried smoking pot, and since he started his eigth grade year, i belive that this book should be available for all children.

i think 'go ask alice' is a revolutionary book, depicting the horrors and dangers of drug addiction and use. i'm glad that adolecsents are reading this book, it's teaching teenagers what's right and what's wrong, what's good and what's bad. i don't think this book should be banned by libraries, but rather incouraged to be read by teenagers. it's a really great book.

this book was a great way to get to know how drugs work. i think kids should not be reading theses books at the age of 10 or under i think th adult should have bought it for them or are 16 up.

I love this book!! It is deffanatly my favorite book of all time. Many people dont realize that what was happendin to the girl in the book is whats really happening in this world right now. Right now i am working on a report and presentation on why it shouldnt be banned from ANY school. I hope i can get people to understand why it should be out there so teenagers can learn from it, not make the same mistakes she did, and to avoid similar things she went through or did. I hope to have my report posted on here soon. So everyone check it out!!

I Loved the book, of course it seems fiction but people do face the fact that drugs are delt all around the world... and this novel is a small part that takes place in are world today and maybe many years from now ... drug use by teens

This book kinda freaks me out. I am unable to come across the fact that this could me either a real diary or a fraud. In a way it scares me to know this could be real.

This is a very well thought out and complete lens. Congratulations. You still need a little bit of proofreading, but I'm still giving you a five for both content and effort. By the way, 50 people voted in your poll? Amazing!

Super job on this lens, Jenn! -- great example for the banned book week topic. In middle school in the 70's this book always had a huge waiting list at the school library but I remember we hid it from our parents. Maybe it was some sort of reverse psychology thing.
