Some of the teams that I'm involved with
If you do sign up or are already playing the game:
Here are some of the teams that I play or coach for. I usually handle the defenses for the teams I GM.
If you joined, look these teams up and contact their owners / GMs. Usually someone in our group of people will have teams that need new players. These are all good folks and know a thing or two about how to play the game and have success.
Chicago Rocks Team won League Championship in Season 2. Currently we're going through the playoffs in search of another Championship.
Rio de Janeiro Carnales Rio is in the South America Pro League which is a VERY tough league with very high level players. This team just recently lost in the playoffs for season 3.
New Orleans SwampdogsTeam is always making the playoffs but has yet to get that Championship. Currently going to the Conference Championship Game. I just hope my QB can cut down on the interceptions! :)
Fiji Flying Foxes - This is a newer team that made the playoffs after a strong regular season. They faded down the stretch though and got knocked out of the season 3 playoffs earlier than expected.

Player Creation Guide
Credit to author tpaterniti - Moderator @ GoalLineBlitz.com
Many of the examples here are just to provide a general idea of what the players look like. Few of the examples are perfect/prototypical.Also it takes many players a while to become effective, especially when facing superior opponents. Do not panic or become discouraged when your level 1-5 player is not doing what you want. He could be facing tough competition, or it may just take a few more levels for him to really develop.
For most player types there are anywhere from 4-8 attributes that are "important". The key is that some are more important than others, and in many ways building solid players is about being able to decipher which abilities are very important and which abilities are less important.
Also keep in mind that there are several ways to gain ability points; skill points are only one way. Here is a breakdown:
1.) Skill Points (when you level up) that you get to assign
2.) Skill Points (when you level up) that are you don't get to assign; they are automatically distributed, 2 are split among your major skills and 1 among your minor skills each level. Note: Your "major skills" for the purposes of automatic skill points are not necessarily the skills listed under the player examples here. For a list see: http://goallineblitz.com/game/forum_thread.pl?thread_id=78600 in the section under Addendum.
3.) Equiptment Points
4.) Training Points
Some skills you may just want to train or boost with equiptment. Some you may apply skill points to. I would use skill points for more important skills and train lesser important skills. For a general guide and some tips for daily training, see the article listed above (http://goallineblitz.com/game/forum_thread.pl?thread_id=78600).
General Tips
Height and Weight
Height and weight have some impact on a player's performance. They are randomly generated (within a realistic set of parameters) when you create your character and you cannot change them. The only thing you could do if you were unhappy with your player's height or weight is retire him and make a new one. However if you choose to retire your player for this reason, be sure to allow his name to change to "Retired Player" in the drop box in the Retirement Options section so you can name your new version of the player the same name as he was before.
Stamina
Stamina is crucial for any player. It doesn't matter how good your player is if he is warming the bench. Furthermore, you get XP based on how many plays you play, not what you do during them. So being on the field is key. Here are some specific guidelines:
Offensive players - these do not tire as quickly as defensive players.
QB
Level 01 - 15
Level 02 - 17
Level 05 - 20
Level 10 - 25
Level 15 - 27
Level 20 - 33
HB - Many teams use 2 HBs. If your team does then you may not need as much stamina
Level 01 - 15
Level 02 - 17
Level 05 - 20
Level 10 - 24
Level 15 - 30
Level 20 - 36
WR, TE, O-linemen
Level 01 - 19
Level 02 - 22
Level 05 - 25
Level 10 - 27
Level 15 - 30
Level 20 - 35
D-linemen - they tire easily so they need a little more.
Level 01 - 23
Level 02 - 25
Level 05 - 30
Level 10 - 33
Level 15 - 38
Level 20 - 43
LB, CB, SS, FS
Level 01 - 20
Level 02 - 25
Level 05 - 28
Level 10 - 31
Level 15 - 34
Level 20 - 36
Punters and Kickers - these do not tire much at all so they do not need as much stamina.
Level 1 - 10
Level 2 - 10
Level 3 - 11
Level 4 - 11
Level 5 - 12
etc. (Just train it occasionally)
All these numbers can be adjusted a few points depending on the following factors:
-Your team's depth and stamina settings
-Your strength (for O and D-linemen, the stronger you are, the slower you get tired
-Whether your team asks that you play on Normal or Hard most of the time
Special Abilities
Special Abilities enhance your physical attributes. Thus without physical attributes they do not do much. The importance of Special Abilities varies from position to position.
-Very Important (add about 1 Special Ability point for every 3 you put into physical attributes) - K, P
-Important (add about 1 Special Ability point for every 4-5 you put into physical attributes) - QB, HB, WR, TE, O-line, D-line
-Not so Important (add about 1 Special Ability point for every 6-7 you put into physical attributes) - LB, CB, SS, FS
Also note that when you fill out the tree, you cannot put more than twice the previous number in the next box. For example, a QB's Passing tree looks like this:
Pocket Presence -> Tight Spiral -> Pump Fake -> Turn Shoulder -> Field General
You cannot put 3 point in Pocket Presence and 7 points in Tight Spiral. You would have to put 4 points into Pocket Presence before the game will let you put more than 6 in Tight Spiral.
Study my QB's Special Ablities for an example: http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=50738
At this early stage in your player's development it is better to pick one tree and focus on it rather than trying to balance it all out between both trees, You can try to balance it, but your player will have a more solid immediate impact if you focus first then add balance later.
Boosting
You can boost your player up to 3 levels per season. You will need flex points to do this, which you can get by either purchasing them or by getting referrals. To do this Click on the Flex Points tab at the top of the page then where it says Level Up a Player, click boost and it will give you a drop down box where you select which player to level up and how many levels (up to 3) you want to boost him. It cost the same amount per level to boost a player as it cost to create him.
Custom Equiptment
You can make a piece of custom equitpment that increases any one attribute or combination of attributes +6. The cost is 100 FPs per +1, so a piece of custom equiptment that is +6 would cost 600 FPs.
At level 8 you can spend 300 FPs to add one point to each special ability on one of your two special ability trees.
You can only use 1 piece of custom equiptment so don't create two for the same player. That would be a waste of FPs.
Positions Guide
Here is a key:
Position Some I have divided into categories (eg.Power vs. Speed/Elusive HB)
Key Physical Attributes: These are the attributes which are the most important for creating a player at this position.
Other Important Physical Attributes: These are the attributes which are important for creating a player at this position, but not as important as the Key Attributes
Special Abilitites: I have grouped this into 3 categories:
-Very Important - Special Abilities are critical for the player's success. Make sure they are filled early and often(add about 1 Special Ability point for every 3 you put into physical attributes) - K, P
-Important - Special abilities are about as important as physical abilities. Pick a tree and add abilities to it regularly (add about 1 Special Ability point for every 4 or 5 you put into physical attributes) - QB, HB, WR, TE, O-line, D-line
-Somewhat Important - You should focus on physical abilities and add special abilities more sparingly (add about 1 Special Ability point for every 6-8 you put into physical attributes) - LB, CB, SS, FS
Other Advice: Any other tips about making this position.
Ideal Backup Position: This is for GMs and coaches looking to maximize their roster and their players' playing time. This section lists positions where the player type may be effective in a backup role.
Example of a Good Build: A url of a player at this position. If you post a url of one of your players who is very successful, please be sure to set his Attribute Sharing Option to "Everyone Can View".
Pocket QB
Key Physical Attributes: Throwing, Vision, Strength
Other Important Physical Attributes: Confidence, Agility
Special Abilitites: Important - Focus on the Pocket Passer abilities
Other Advice: Confidence helps a QB recover after throwing INTs and when things are not going so well. It counters many defensive special abilities designed to demorilize the QB. If you set your favorite targets to None, that will improve your completion % by 5-8 points and cause fewer INTs especially at a low level. The only reasons you should set them is:
1.) If you have a big time mismatch you particularly want to exploit
2.) If you want to get the ball to your TE more
3.) If you have a WR who is an excellent rout-runner, but not a lot of speed.
Unless your team passes deep more than 65% of the time, I would turn the Favor Deep Passes option off.
Ideal Backup Position: None
Example of a Good Build: http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=50738
Rushing QB
Key Physical Attributes: Speed, Agility, Vision
Other Important Physical Attributes: Throwing, Strength, Confidence
Special Abilitites: Important - Focus on the Scrambler abilities
Other Advice: Rushing QBs will not be effective until the addition of more complex offensive tactics. Even then, unless you plan on running the option (not likely), he will still need to be able to throw the ball. Still, I can envision a QB with incredible speed (70+) being dominant later on.
Ideal Backup Position: None
Example of a Good Build: Example Needed!!!
Power HB
Key Physical Attributes: Agility, Strength, Speed
Other Important Physical Attributes: Vision, Carrying
Special Abilitites: Important - Focus on the Power Back abilities
Other Advice: Agility is key for your speed to be used to its maximum potential. Vision as well helps quite a bit with finding holes and cut backs. Strength will help you barrel over tacklers, and a power HB can be effective even with relatively low speed if he has a lot of strength, agility, and vision.
Ideal Backup Position: None
Example of a Good Build: http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=143990
Elusive/Speed HB
Key Physical Attributes: Speed, Agility, Vision
Other Important Physical Attributes: Carrying, Strength
Special Abilitites: Important - Focus on the Elusive Back tree
Other Advice: Speed is the key to this type of HB. Pump the speed way up. Agility and vision will help him
A More Recent Update to Player Builds
by thebigcali
I tend to agree with this approach much more than the one above when it comes to player builds. There were some major changes in Season 4 and I would much prefer to use the following guide than the original one above.
However, the guide above has some good information so it won't be removed. It's a good reference still with decent information.. Use the two together to make your determinations.

Consider this a strategy guide for season 4. Goal Line Blitz has evolved and I feel the long term benefits of the changes made to the effectiveness of player builds are for the best.
First, I want to address the skills that have been altered that are "handcuffed" to another skill. I will use this term, "handcuffed" from here on out to describe what must work together in order to achieve success. Here are the skills, by position, which must be used as handcuffs to one another. These handcuffs do not necessarily mean that one skill must equal the other. It simply implies they should be at least near together. In the case of speed to agility, there should be a ratio of 2 agility for every 3 speed points. The negative to not following this is that your skills will not be utilized fully. Let's say, as an example, your speed is 70 and your agility is 20. This is a 3.5 to 1 ratio of speed to agility. You will run AND accelerate slower than your skill. How much slower? Only Bort can say, but I feel it is enough to notice and enough piss you off so you change how you are building your player! I would suggest getting every single one of these skills to a 3 to 2 ratio ASAP. The only ones I might slack on are ones that may not be REALLY relevant, such as Strength to Blocking for WRs. It's obviously important to be a good blocker, but that isn't AS important as Speed to Agility.
DISCLAIMER: This is not Admin/Bort approved strategy. This is my own personal opinion as a GLB expert. Yes, GLB expert. I spent many hours per day researching, watching game film for 8 teams, reading forums and using my own players / friends' players as examples in order to compile all of this information over the course of the last two and a half seasons. This is not absolute truth, just a general suggestion that should be very close to accurate. Most of this information is more applicable to LV 15+ PLAYERS! For low level leagues, specialist builds (high speed HBs or high strength OL, etc) can work much more effectively and consistently. But once you get into Pro or AAA level builds, this guide becomes much more relevant.
QB Vision-Confidence-Strength (even), Throwing should be 1.5X higher than VIS/CONF/STR
HB Speed-Agility (3:2), Vision-Confidence (even), Carrying-Strength (even), Strength-Blocking (even), Vision-Catching (3:2)
FB Speed-Agility (3:2), Strength-Blocking (even), Vision-Confidence (even), Strength-Carrying (even), Vision-Catching (3:2)
WR Speed-Agility (3:2), Vision-Catching (3:2), Vision-Confidence (even), Strength-Carrying (even), Strength-Blocking (even)
TE Speed-Agility (3:2), Vision-Catching (3:2), Strength-Blocking (even), Vision-Confidence (even), Carrying-Strength (even)
OT Strength-Blocking (even), Agility-Speed (3:2), Vision-Confidence (even)

SAFETIES Speed-Agility (3:2), Strength-Tackling (even), Vision-Confidence (even), Catching-Jumping (3:2)
P Punting-Strength-Confidence-Vision (4:3:3:3) ie 40 punting, 30 strength, 30 confidence, 30 vision
K Kicking-Strength-Confidence-Vision (4:3:3:3) ie 40 kicking, 30 strength, 30 confidence, 30 vision
OFFENSIVE PLAYER BUILD ORIENTATION
(Major skills - Very Important, Minor Skills - Don't ignore me but don't over-do it skills, Meh Skills - Not THAT important, yet)
QB (Quarterback)
Quarterbacks are a tricky position to build and there are multiple approaches. Some guys focus more on throwing, some guys try to keep it balanced. In my opinion, builds are common sense at every single position and QB is no different. Throwing works to increase accuracy and catchability of passes. Vision is your QB's ability to read defenses, predict where the openings are and find open receivers. Strength is how deep you can throw but also how much velocity your QB can put on the ball, this can also work to make passes more difficult to intercept AND more difficult to catch. Confidence will make your QB take more chances on tough passes, make likely to throw if he's being hurried, and more likely to not lose morale if he throws interceptions or incompletions. Agility will help him avoid the rush, the higher agility the more he can burst out of the way of a pass rushing defender. Speed will help him scramble away from trouble. Carrying will increase his ability to hold onto the ball if sacked. Catching and jumping have no confirmed big effects.
NOTES: Presently, Scrambling QBs DO NOT work. DO NOT EVEN TRY IT. Until Bort creates better plays for rushing QBs, I REPEAT, DO NOT TRY IT.
MAJOR SKILLS Throwing, Vision, Strength
MINOR SKILLS Confidence, Agility
MEH SKILLS Speed, Carrying, Catching, Jumping
SPECIAL ABILITIES All of the Pocket Passer and the first Scramler Abilitiy "On the Run"
KEY SPECIAL ABILITY "Field General" & "Tight Spiral" in Pocket Passer
HB (Halfback / Running Back)
The Halfback position is very straight forward position to build. Speed works best in the open field so don't think it is the end-all be-all skill for a HB, since most of your runs will involve you having someone within 3 yards of your player. Also, this does not include outside rushes, which would require more speed. Agility helps you hit the hole in the line of scrimmage fast as well as increases the effectiveness of jukes, head fakes, cut-backs and shiftiness. Strength greatly helps, in addition to agility, to burst through the line of scrimmage. It appears weaker backs get brought down much more easily against very strong D-linemen; and strength obviously also helps break tackles and keeps players to not fumble. Carrying helps secure the ball and minimize fumbles. Vision improves the HB's ability to see where the line will open up as well as make adjustments/cuts during their runs in order to evade defenders. Confidence improves your HBs ability to not get tackled for a loss and also hit holes he might otherwise ignore and to take chances on, low confidence can cause him to sometimes get caught up in the backfield and tackled. Jumping helps you at the goal line in order to dive in or to just gain an extra yard or two while being tackled. Blocking does just that. Throwing may be a factor in the future when trick plays may or may not be added
NOTES: Balance pays off. Do not try to go too far in creating a back entirely elusive or entirely power. You need a bit of both, think Emmitt Smith.
MAJOR SKILLS Speed, Agility, Carrying, Vision, Strength
MINOR SKILLS Confidence, Catching
MEH SKILLS Jumping, Blocking, Throwing
SPECIAL ABILITIES All
KEY SPECIAL ABILITY "Juke" in Elusive and "Power Thru" in Power
FB (Fullback)
Fullbacks are unheralded but a great one can make the running game that much more effective. Always remember your place on the team, you are a lead blocker first and a rushing/passing option second the great majority of the time on the great majority of teams. Strength and blocking should be your first priority. Talk to your HB, if he's faster than you, you will only hinder his abilities since he will often be right behind you. Furthermore, he might bump into you if you are much slower than him. If you are too slow, he'll just run past you and you'll end up blocking a defender who isn't a factor on the play. Agility will help you burst through the line of scrimmage and if you combine that with strength, you might be able to create a hole in the line yourself. Carrying will decrease the chances of you fumbling the ball away. Confidence will also help you attack the line more quickly since a low morale might result in you taking fewer chances if the hole in the line is small or limited.
NOTES: Fullbacks should be tailored specifically to your offense, if you rush quite a bit, focus more on the rushing skills (speed/agility/carrying) or if he's more of a lead blocker, focus on the blocking skills (strength/blocking)
MAJOR SKILLS Strength, Blocking, Speed
MINOR SKILLS Agility, Vision, Carrying, Confidence, Catching
MEH SKILLS Tackling
SPECIAL ABILITIES All
KEY SPECIAL ABILITY "Lead Block" in Blocking and "Power Thru" in Offensive.
C/G/OT (Offensive Linemen - Center/Guard/Tackle)
These skills all work the essentially same way for offensive linemen so I'll lump them together. Strength & Blocking help keep defenders engaged, what this refers to is when OL and DL battle for position. Keeping a defender engaged means he can't break free and make a play on the ball carrier or play. Strength also helps pancakes. Vision reflects an OL's technique, the more vision, the better he is at seeing what the defenders are doing which in turn helps more easily adjust during the play to the defenders' blitz / rush. Confidence works with the morale of a OL, some plays he might get pushed around and it is easy for an offensive linemen to get down on himself so confidence keeps his morale high throughout the game. Agility works to greatly increase the likelihood you'll stay in position and in front of the defender. Agility also works to make small, quick adjustments to pass rushers who are trying to get after the QB, this works to keep OL in the correct posit
However, the guide above has some good information so it won't be removed. It's a good reference still with decent information.. Use the two together to make your determinations.
