The Golden Compass Video Game

The game based on the movie is set to be released this week

The Golden Compass is set to be released the week of December 5th for Nintendo DS, Playstation 2 and 3, Sony PSP, Nintendo WII, and XBOX 360.

Only time will tell if this is just another movie tie in to make an extra buck or if this is going to break the series of poor games based upon movies.

Mostly based upon the movie

Early rumors have it that the game will feature 11 areas from the movie and two unique areas only found in the novels. From early screen shots and trailers, the graphics on this game actually look good; hopefully that's a good start for this game. Every game player knows that graphics aren't the only thing to make a good game.

The game starts with almost a practice level where you play as Lyra riding Iorek, the polar bear, in order to get you used to the controls which are simplified because the game is geared at the younger game-playing crowd. You'll be switching between playing as Lyra and Iorek in order to complete the levels which include puzzle solving and action game-play in order to rescue Lyra's uncle and her friend Roger.
