Goldfish Keychains

Newest Animal Torture Device

In celebration of the 2008 Olympics, vendors in Qingdao China have decided to sell heart shaped plastic keychains. One of 5 olympic mascots are on each keychain. And inside the clear plastic? A live goldfish.

Why These Should Never Be Sold

Since these keychains are sealed, there is very little air, and no way to feed the goldfish trapped inside them. One of 5 olympic mascots are on each keychain, and while they are not official merchandise, you would think that someone at some point in the idea would have realized this would not go over well with the general public.

If this wasn't bad enough, not all of the goldfish even survive being put into the things and shipped off to be sold! Just hours after buying them, the goldfish are dead, if they live even that long. Between the lack of air, no way to feed them, the trauma they endure from being shaken up and swung around, and the fact that these keychains are easily punctured, I'm surprised any survived past the first idea.

Many animal rights groups are calling for a boycott of the summer Olympics in protest.

If laws for cruelty to animals of every kind would be made much more strict, sick people like the maker of these key chains would have been put in jail before he could have sold the 1st one!!!!!!!!!! better yet put him in a plastic tub full of water then put a tight cover over it, see how he likes it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very, Very, Very cruel! Makes me so mad at the sick person who came up with this. Who will buy it? A waste of life and money. Only those will buy it with no feeling for life. Just sick! They come up with any stupid thing to make money.

"...I'm surprised any survived past the first idea." I whole-heartedly agree with this statement.

I didn't even realize our cruelty to something as beautiful as a fish extended this far.

Great lens though, thank you for the information. You did an awesome job compiling the info!

I remember hearing about this. Those poor fish. Born just so they can die in a key chain. :(
