Improve Your Golf Iron Swing By Knowing Your Equipment

Knowing Your Equipment Is Essential To Improve Your Golf Iron Swing. A basic set of golf clubs consists of 14 different clubs. Most sets consists of a driver, 3 wood, 5 wood, putter and then a set of irons that range from a pitching wedge through a 3 iron. Some new sets of golf clubs have replaced the 3 wood, 5 wood, 3 iron and 4 iron with hybrid clubs. The hybrid clubs are meant to be a cross between a long iron and a fairway wood and they are supposed to be easier to hit for the average player. Since the irons make up the largest portion of a set of golf clubs, it is the golf iron swing that I will focus on.

Knowing Your Short Game

Short irons, which would be the sand wedge, pitching wedge, 9 iron and 8 iron require a different Golf Iron Swing than the longer or mid-range clubs. Short irons are typically used from a range of about 130 yards and closer for the average golfer. When using a short iron, your stance should be a little narrower than with other clubs. You want your feet to be about shoulder width apart or even narrower, as long as the stance is comfortable. The idea behind using the short irons is to get an accurate shot with a lot of loft. Because of this, these irons are designed to get the ball up in the air quickly and easily. If struck correctly, a short iron shot should be fairly accurate with the goal of landing the ball on the green.

Mid-Range Golf Iron Swings

Are What Makes The Difference

Mid-range irons include a 5 iron, 6 iron and 7 iron. These irons require some adjustments to the Golf Iron Swing. With mid-range irons, your stance should be a little wider than with the short irons. The ball should also be more toward the middle of your stance, where the short irons have the ball more toward the right foot. The goal of the mid-range irons is to get the ball on the green from distances of 150 - 190 yards for the average golfer. These clubs are a little more difficult to hit than the short irons so they require more practice to be accurate.

Long Golf Iron Swing

Is Definitly The Hardest

The final category of irons is the long iron. This typically includes a 3 iron and 4 iron. These long irons present the most difficult Golf Iron Swing to make. These clubs are usually only needed on long par 3 holes or maybe on an approach shot on a par 5. The best advice on how to hit these clubs successfully is to keep them in the bag unless there is no other choice.
