Golf Putting Training Tips - How To Read Greens And Putt The Ball Everytime

Hi, my name is Jonathan but my friends call me John. This lens is dedicated to putting, which is a crucial part of any golf game. Many players spend a great deal of time on their swings but fail to do anything about their putting.

I'm not saying that investing some effort in your golf swing isn't important, but improving your putting ability doesn't fall short of that. In fact, a great deal of players spend 3-4 strokes a hole just on putting. That's 20 extra strokes just there.

Golf Putting Tip #1 - Follow Through

Many players finish the movement of their putter when they hit the ball. This is a mistake which leads to many missed puts. You have to finish the movement of the putter about six inches beyond where the ball stood. This will guarantee a more accurate shot and will cut strokes off your game.

Imagine a spot about 6 inches in front of your ball in the direction of your putter's movement. When you hit the ball make sure the putter moves until it reaches that imaginary spot.

Golf Putting Tip #2 - Don't Ignore The Wind

Many players only take the wind into account when it comes to long shots. Granted, the wind does have more effect when the ball is airborne, but it can also influence the course of the ball in putting. After all, the hole is pretty small, even a slight wind interference can make the different between a birdie or par.

I'm not saying the wind is the most important factor in golf putting, but you do need to take it into account. Just don't ignore it.

Golf Putting Tip #3 - Read The Green From A Number of Angles

Every golfer knows you have to read the green before putting. However, most players read the green from one angle only, from where they plan to stand and hit the ball.

When you gain more experience you may be able to understand the nature of the green with just one look, but until that time, do yourself a favor and read the green from a number of angles. You want believe that things you may see. This can cut 1 stroke a hole of your score.

Golf Putting Tip #4 - Eliminate Putting Jitters

Putting is a delicate business. You have to get it just right for it to work. In order to do that with consistency, you have to be totally calm. If you need to, take deep breaths before each putt.

This is so important that many serious players work on the mental side of their game almost as hard as they do on their actual game.

Golf Putting Tip #5 - Take Your Time

Many players rush their putting and end up missing more than they should. Remember than you're not playing on a clock but at your own pace. Take as much time as you need before putting. It can increase your successes by a large percentage.

Putting Training Tip #6 - Putt Around The Clock

If you want to practice putting, a good thing to do is to "putt around the clock". Don't worry, this doesn't mean you'll be putting all day, just from all the angles. This putting training routine means that you should putt the ball from the twelve points of the hours as if on a clock.

Try to do this from different distances. It will improve your putting ability from every angle. After all, in a real game there's no telling where you'll end up on the green.

Putting Tip #7 - Keep Your Head Motionless

Many players tend to follow the motion of the ball with their eyes and head. Moving your head as you putt the ball causes your shoulders to shift which reduces the control you have over the putt. Make sure to keep your head still until the ball is well on its way.
