Gone Too Far

Have you every picked up a book, read it, finish it and wished it wasn't over?

That's what happened to me. It was the third book in the Troubleshooters series by Suzanne Brockmann, Over The Edge. I met Sam Starrett, a Navy SEAL, and Alyssa Locke an FBI Agent who were meant to be together, if life didn't interfer.

These two characters where part of a subplot, not even the main characters, I was captivated and cried for them in the end. I've never actually read a book that made me so emotional for days after I'd finished the story.

Then I was on a quest to find and read the first two books, then the others after. I passed the books onto my friends and we would have late night discussions on the different couples and their individual dramas.

It wasn't until the sixth book that the story of Sam and Alyssa came to life. Anticipation sometimes makes the heart grow fonder! Thank you Suzanne for an amazing story.

Suzanne Brockmann's SEAL Team Sixteen has a mixture of personailites that come to life in every book spotlighting each member. As the character grow the plots thicken into impossible situations with our heros risking their lifes for honor, justice and freedom.

A Must Read

Military intrigue, sexual tension, unlimited suspense and reuniting families.

When Suzanne Brockmann writes about her elite warriors, the U.S. Navy SEALs, you know you won't put the book down until everyone is accounted for.

Sam Starrett finds himself walking into a gruesome site when he goes to Sarasota looking for his estranged wfe and daughter who he hasn't spoken to in several weeks. A dead body in the home of his sister-in-law with blood everywhere, an obvious crime scene that Sam knows that he should report, but, is it his wife, is his daughter in there?

Working with the FBI on numerous terrorist situation, he calls his buddy, Jules in the FBI Washington office only to get the one person who doesn't want to speak to him, Alyssa Locke.

Sam, realizing that everyone thinks he shot his wife, is on run looking for clues to who could've or would've done this. Looking for who now has his daughter. Alyssa as an FBI agent on the case gets caught up with Sam again, on the run.

Through all this action, Suzanne let's us in on Sam's early years growing up. You learn that this lieutenant with the U.S. Navy SEALs had a very hard life and became very close to a boy who was the total opposite of him and he's keep this relationship as part of his family.

What about his CO, Tom Paoletti, who's being questioned by the U.S. Navy about a terrorist incident that happened in the previous book "Into the Night." It looks like on of his men, Sam Starrett, smuggled weapons into the area that almost had the President of the U.S. killed?

How I see Sam and Alyssa

Oh, how I needed to see Sam and Alyssa connect

When I first met Sam, he was in a turbulent relationship between him and FBI sharpshooter Alyssa Locke. Suzanne Brockmann is very good at just giving us little hints as to the history of these two characters.

You could feel the pain that Sam is feeling everytime he sees or hears Alyssa's name. It reminds you of your first love; everytime you saw them in the hall at school you didn't know if you wanted to run and hide or try and say something intelligent.

When the bullets start flying, neither one of them knows where the other one is, the anxiety builds to a point where you know someone's go to break.

But that hardest part is not to hate Sam for being so honorable leaving the one person you know is his soulmate to do the "right thing," to he leave her alone to build a life without him.

The pain the Alyssa goes through after finally trusting Sam, to be there for her when she needs him and finds out that he's even a stronger person than she could every have imagined. You want to shake Suzanne Brockmann for doing this to them.

Gone Too Far brings these two back together in the most bizarre circumstances against terrorism, fighting for their lifes, fighting the agencies as well as saving a little girl.

One issue Alyssa has tried to overcome is that Sam is your typical good-old white boy from Texas and she's an African American. Hello, met Noah, Sam's cousin and closest friend, who's also African American, now, how can Alyssa think she wouldn't fit into Sam's world?

Suzanne Brockmann doesn't just give us this one sizzling plot ,which is almost too much for you, she gives you another compeling story going on during the WWII that brings light on Sam's background. And if that's not enough, let's throw in the integrity of a Commander in Chief trying to stay away from the one person who can destroy his career, but again, Suzanne begins the start of her next book.

Talk about cliff hangers.

It has to be Sam!

Everyone loves a "Bad Boy" personification

Suzanne Brockmann describes our Sam as:

STARRETT, ROGER. Hero of Gone Too Far, Former SEAL Officer.
Nicknames: Sam, Ringo, Houston.

The man with all the nicknames took a pair of bullets in The Unsung Hero, then returned in The Defiant Hero with his cowboy drawl and his addiction to chocolate. He was back in Over the Edge, driving sharpshooter and FBI special agent Alyssa Locke crazy-only to end up marrying his former girlfriend, Mary Lou Morrison, who was pregnant with his child. Things went from bad to worse in Out of Control and Into the Night, especially when Sam went to Alyssa's hotel room in the middle of the night- just to make sure she was all right-only to have FBI Agent Max Bhagat answer the door. But Sam finally got it right in Gone Too Far. Married to Alyssa Locke, both work for Tom Paoletti's Troubleshooters Incorporated.

SOME NOTES ABOUT MILITARY RANKS

SOURCE: www.defenselink.mil

Officer ranks in the United States military consist of commissioned officers and warrant officers. The commissioned ranks are the highest in the military. These officers hold presidential commissions and are confirmed at their ranks by the Senate. Army, Air Force and Marine Corps officers are called company grade officers in the pay grades of O-1 to O-3, field grade officers in pay grades O-4 to O-6 and general officers in pay grades O-7 and higher. The equivalent officer groupings in the Navy are called junior grade, mid-grade and flag. Service members in pay grades E-1 through E-3 are usually either in some kind of training status or on their initial assignment. The training includes the basic training phase where recruits are immersed in military culture and values and are taught the core skills required by their service component. Basic training is followed by a specialized or advanced training phase that provides recruits with a specific area of expertise or concentration. In the Army and Marines, this area is called a military occupational specialty; in the Navy it is known as a rate; and in the Air Force it is simply called an Air Force specialty. Leadership responsibility significantly increases
in the mid-level enlisted ranks. This responsibility is given formal recognition by use of the terms noncommissioned officer and petty officer. An Army sergeant, an Air Force staff sergeant, and a Marine corporal are considered NCO ranks. The Navy NCO equivalent, petty officer, is achieved at the rank of petty officer third class. At the E-8 level, the Army, Marines and Air Force have two positions at the same
pay grade. Whether one is, for example, a senior master sergeant or a first sergeant in the Air Force depends on the person's job. The same is true for the
positions at the E-9 level. Marine Corps master gunnery sergeants and sergeants major receive the same pay but have different responsibilities. All told, E-8s and E-9s have 15 to 30 years on the job, and are commanders' senior advisers for enlisted matters. A third E-9 element is the senior enlisted person of each service. The sergeant major of the Army, the sergeant major of the Marine Corps, the master chief petty officer of the Navy and the chief master sergeant of the Air Force are the spokespersons of the enlisted force at the highest levels of their services.
