EelKat's Gothic Lensography
Goth-ography is my lensography just for my Goth-type Lenses, which seem to be adding up quite quickly. With plans for a whole series of Goth type lenses in the works, I figured it was high time I created an index to keep track of them all, and this is it.
I make lenses all the time, so watch for new ones to be added as time goes by. This is my index for all the Gothic type ones. Goth-ography is eternally under construction because I am constantly creating new lenses. Check back each week to see what's new. Have fun, enjoy your stay, return often, watch out for vampire bunnies. Thank you.

FAQ: Why Does EelKat Create So Many Gothic Lenses?
My name is Wendy C. Allen a.k.a. EelKat. I am a writer, editor, publisher, artist, doll maker, animal rights activist, costume maker, make-up artist, sale representative, and fashion designer.
I change from Glam to Gothic to Lolita to Punk depending on my current mood. I've been one or the other since the early 1980's, and often all three at once. I write in the Gothic, Horror, and Science Fiction genres. My works include The Twighlight Manor series, it's spin-offs: The Planet Ptarmagin series, and The Crystonite Chronicles. Some of my other writing habits include children's stories, The Adventures of Pink Frog (series), comic books, and the dark retellings of classic folk lore & fairy tales, known as EelKat's Twisted Tales, which include the two upcoming volumes: SHIVER and The Pearl Necklace. I am the owner of The Twighlight Manor Press, which publishes these books.
I dream about opening my own Gothic fashion shop The Rabbit Hole. The Rabbit Hole is a Gothic~Lolita~CosPlay Clothen Store, that has yet to be built. Everything is still in the planning stages.

![]()
I love designing my own clothes, and clothes for my dolls, and hope to one day have a fashion line of my own and a little shop in Maine to sell them in. The Rabbit Hole gets it's name from Alice in Wonderland, the theory being that once you walk through the front door, you leave the real world outside and enter a world of wonder. There are no Gothic or Lolita or CosPlay stores around here, I want to change that. As my plans for The Rabbit Hole stand at the moment, I'm planning to sell Gothic and Lolita fashions, makeup, dolls, CosPlay supplies, and other such items. I don't want to carry mass-produced fashions, rather those made by designers, possibly custom work. I like one-of-a-kind items, so I want everything in my store to be either one-of-a-kind or very limited runs of 10 or less.
I've been working on this for 5 or 6 years now, getting all the kinks and stuff worked out. I've written and rewritten the business plans, studying other businesses plans, and reading up everything I can find about starting a business.
In short, Gothic culture is pretty much a normal every day thing in my life. It effects most everything I do, including my career plans. I think, live and breath in a Gothic aura, and that aura has brushed off and landed on many of my lenses here on Squidoo, and so I find myself with many Gothic type lenses.

FIRST OFF: What Is Goth?
Gothic actually gets it's name from the Gothic time period, because it means a revival of wearing Gothic Period clothing. It actually has nothing to do with the color black or gloomy emotions (that's EMO, not Goth).
Gothic clothen is clothen that was worn from 500AD - 1300AD (the original Gothic period). The first Gothic movement started in the 1850's and lasted until the 1930's. This period is known as The Gothic Revival Period, and it's when people tried to dress in fashions that mimic those of the original Gothic period.
Today's Gothic movement started in the 1970's but didn't take full hold until the late 1990's. The Modern Gothic Period or Goth Movement means to wear the cloths worn during The Gothic Revival Period (1850's - 1930's).
So few people know this and it always frustrates me, when people say: *You're Goth? But why aren't you wearing black and cutting your wrists?*
ARGH! EMO is not Goth!

Black is Pretty
Look I added a pretty black box here!

FAQ: OMG! Are You On the Way to a Party?
or . . . I love that cape! Where did you buy it?
One of the dangers of being a Goth in an area where no one but you is a Goth, is that every time you set a foot outside, people gawk at you and start asking the silliest stupid dang questions. Like:
Are you promoting a play for the local theater?
Are you on the way to a costume party?
Is there a Renaissance Fair nearby?
Are you a circus clown?
OMG! It's a Harry Potter fan!
Are you a witch?
. . .and my personal favorite:
- What the hell planet did you drop off of?!?
yea . . .okay . . . whatever.
So what prompts these non-ending string of questions everywhere I go? My cloths.
My clothen style includes velvet, capes, empire gowns, gowns with trains, burnoose, shawls, runas, fishnet hose, striped stockings, combat boots, velvet, top-hats, long dresses, ruffled frilly skirts, cosplay, Gothic, Lolita, Victorian, Edwardian, velvet, frockcoats, Alice in Wonderland, vampire fashions, Medival fashions, crilolines & petticoats, eyelash-fringe fabric, sequins, beads, glitter, lace, cloaks, ruffles, broomstick skirts, stripes, plaid, poet blouses, peasant dresses, fairy tale princess gowns, faerie outfits, wizard-look stuff, big hats, bright colored hats, ballet flats, platforms, anything that Dracula would love to wear, and stuff like worn by Jem*, The Holigrams, and The Misfits.
I was dressing like Jem, before Jem was invented.
I love anything made of velvet!
I don't like pants: won't wear them, won't own them.
I the 1980's I wore min-skirts, but as the years have gone by, my dresses and skirts got longer; today my hems sweep the floor and they often have trains. I have one dress that has 7 yards of fabric on the skirt alone, it can be worn with or without hoops.
No, what I'm wearing is not a costume.
Yes, I dress like this every day, all day long, even around the house, when working in the garden, and when shoveling manure out of the barn. Yes I am a farmer.
No, I don't own any "normal" clothes.
No, I can't tell you where I bought them, because I didn't buy them, I sewed them.
No, I can't tell you where to buy the pattern, I didn't buy a pattern I made the pattern. I've been sewing since I was 6 years old when I made my first doll. I made my first ball-gown at age 12. At age 16 I graduated from a 2 year course in fashion design & merchandising. I've spent most of my life studying fashion history and the art of recreating historical clothen from the Gothic periods (1300 - 1500 & 1850 - 1930), and those are the clothes I thus wear.
No I already told you this is not a costume, these are my regular cloths, I don't care if you think this is a costume, it is not, please stop asking me if it is.
I don't like people who think I'm wearing a costume even after been told that I am not.
Yes, I know this looks like a Willy Wonka costume, yes, Johnny Depp inspired it. Yes, I do wear a top hat everywhere I go. No, I repeat this is not a costume.
Yes, I REALLY am making a historical reproduction of Lord Sesshomaru's costume, and yes, I do intend to wear it, fluffy tail, battle armor, and all.

- I really liked your kimono lens (which is how I found your site, by the by, was going through kimono sites on google) and I want to see goth drawn kimono. I have a few ideas, but I don't draw well enough to get to see them. Maybe you will have some like (or even better!) ideas about goth kimono. The swirls, the bats, the ravens, the bones, the demons--I love prints from Yoshitoshi, tattoos from demon tales; wouldn't these make a wonderful kimono? elegant deathwear doesn't need to be Victorian! Maybe you could make an embroidery pattern?

- I love to dress up as a goth every now and then, but the most annoying respond you would get from people is being misunderstood as EMO. I couldn't walk the streets in peace without people talking about how depressing and miserable i am and how i would allegedly "slit my wrists" at night argh!. Extremely-well-put-together lens on goth, i love you :)
